GENERAL SUMMARY
Salary: $15.00/hr. minimum – $16.50/hr. midpoint (Depending on qualifications)

To observe all patrons of Mesquite swimming pools and ensure their safety while using the pool; to administer CPR and First Aid as needed; and to perform cleaning or maintenance work on the pool and in the pool area.

General Supervision is provided by the Swimming Pool Supervisor or Head Lifeguard.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Observe pool patrons and ensure that pool rules and safety practices are followed
  • Provide CPR, AED or first aid as required.
  • Clean pool tiles, decks, drain covers, gutters, and bathrooms, vacuum the pool and perform other pool maintenance duties.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

EXPERIENCE

  • None required.
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age at time of hire.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

  • Possession of an appropriate Lifeguard Training Certificate from the American Red Cross or another agency of equivalent standing.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid CPR Certificate from the American Red Cross or another agency of equal standing.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid First Aid Certification from the American Red Cross or another agency of equal standing.
  • Possession of an appropriate valid Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Certification from the American Red Cross or another agency of equal standing.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule 20-30 hours per week Sunday-Saturday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.; during the time period of May 27, through Sept 4, 2023.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position does not require a physical for employment.

Part Time and Seasonal Employees:

PARS ARS 457 Plan enrollment is mandatory for part-time and seasonal employees who work less than 1,000 hours per year.
Each pay period, 6.2% of wages will be deducted from pay and deposited into your PARS ARS account. Contributions are made on a pre-tax basis.
Each pay period, the City will also contribute the equivalent of 1.3% of wages into a PARS ARS account. Employer contributions are deposited on a pre-tax basis.
There is no contribution to Social Security Administration.
