Job Summary
Kitsap Humane Society’s Lifesaving Assistant is a compassionate animal lover and team-player with strong people skills, attention to detail, sense of urgency and organizational skills. This position plays a key role in supporting all of our lifesaving departments, including Animal care, Admissions, Customer Service, Foster care and our Behavior Department. This position supports all departments in implementing progressive care, promotion, and placement for each animal as an individual to help KHS save as many lives as possible.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform adoption counsels, review animal records and complete paperwork to process animals out
- Assist Adoption Coordinator and adoption staff with transporting animals to off-site adoption locations
- Respond to email and phone inquiries from the public, and list stray pets on website and phone line
- Assist adoption staff with promoting adoptable pets, including writing bios, taking photos and videos, making promotional posters and other displays
- Assist Canine Training and Behavior Coordinator with completing dog behavior assessments as needed
- Provide dog walking support on scheduled walking shifts as needed
- Provide kennel cleaning support for all animal types including cats/kittens, dogs/puppies, small animals, birds, livestock, and reptiles.
- Support vet services team by checking in and checking out patients arriving for low-cost spay/neuter appointments
- Perform vaccinations for pets while sedated for surgery, and assist with post-op recovery of patients
- Administer medication to pets under vet treatment, and completing treatment documents
- Assist the Admissions staff with intake of strays and owner releases
- Handle animals of all breeds, ages, sizes, and temperaments. While most interactions are with dogs and cats, staff must be comfortable interacting with all animals, including livestock, fowl, small animals, reptiles, birds and more.

Qualifications
- Experience and comfort handling cats and dogs of all ages, breeds, sizes and temperaments
- Customer service experience, including positivity, friendliness, tact and sound judgment
- Comfortable talking with members of the public and communicating respectfully with coworkers and clients
- Able to apply good judgment and decision-making skills following Kitsap Humane Society policies and procedures
- Be computer literate and have experience working with Microsoft Office, email and mobile devices
- Positive and open minded towards progressive animal welfare strategies and policies
- Able to understand and implement oral and written instructions
- Have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and clean driving record
- Able to potentially work weekends and holidays
- Must complete a pre-employment criminal background check
- Highschool diploma or GED required
- Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted
