The anticipated salary range for this role is between $78,000.00 and $145,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Overview:
This role is for additional growth for a Distributed Computing Linux Engineer within the Systems Infrastructure department in Technology. You will work in a fast-paced team environment supporting our Trading floor, Middle, and Back-office users.
The position will be primarily located in the New York office, but may require other site visits to our other sites in NY and NJ.
We are looking for a Linux Systems Engineer. You will be responsible for our Linux environment including engineering, design, implementation, and support on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
The candidate must have knowledge of Red Hat Linux and have overall Linux experience.
Responsibilities:
• Support business and technical Linux projects to improve the computing and network infrastructure on-prem and Cloud
• Your primary responsibility will be to provide Linux system administration, and Linux systems engineering
• You will configure, install, and maintain Linux systems on-prem and AWS cloud
• You will lock down Linux systems based upon security requirements and CIS Benchmarks
• You will help to run annual Linux security recertification
• Research, diagnose, and resolve complex Linux system software and hardware issues as they arise
• Provide input to security relevant documentation such as Policies and Procedure and Security Controls Documentation
• Lead the Linux Security Patching Process utilizing Red Hat Satellite and Ansible
• Help design and implement Linux configuration management, monitor systems, and networks
• Deliver on assigned projects on time
• Responsible for maintaining Linux Hardware and Linux Software End of Life
• Responsible for managing Linux annual maintenance renewals
Role Objectives
Maintain servers, storage devices, network, and telecommunications equipment. Perform upgrades and maintenance on all IT infrastructure hardware. Maintain server operating systems, database software, file server structure and protocols, email servers, authentication servers, back-up systems and firewalls. Provision services and accounts for new users. Manage software library and perform updates as needed. Run monitoring and reporting utilities, operations logs and access auditing tools. Monitor system performance daily and generate reports on key metrics such as storage capacity, server resource utilization, connectivity and uptime, back-up performance and incident logs. Provide support on all IT infrastructure-related issues and escalation support for all other IT departments. Collaborate incident response for any major outages. Maintain disaster recovery systems and implement DR plans as needed.
Demonstrate understanding of IT infrastructure hardware, cloud service platforms, operating systems, virtual environments and configuration tools. Display familiarity with application integration, update and change management, database design and structures, system deployments and automated reporting and monitoring tools. Exhibit knowledge of regulations regarding data security and retention, anti-virus tools and protection models, network security and access protocols, and firewall configurations. Show ability to support projects across multiple functions and divisions and coordinate incident response while providing clear communications to affected parties.

• Experience applying security patches to Linux operating systems, applications and network peripherals
• Experience troubleshooting Linux operating systems and applications
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Experience installing, configuring and operating network services such as DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, SAMBA, AD
• Cloud experience would be a plus – AWS and/or Azure
• Experience with writing scripts
• Experience with automation would be a Plus
• Experience with Market Data Backend (Reuters) would be a Plus
• Experience with SolarWinds monitoring would be a Plus
