Compensation Range: $70,000 – $90,000 (depends on qualifications)
The University of Minnesota Duluth Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) team seeks a Linux System Administrator to manage systems that support its mission of providing the campus community with high-quality and reliable technology. In this role, you’ll collaborate with several cross-functional teams to develop and support critical infrastructure for the University’s academic, research, and public engagement missions. The ideal candidate will be a self-directed learner with a desire to understand the entire Linux ecosystem including various Linux distributions, Puppet, Docker, Git, and more. Experience and a desire to leverage Bash, PowerShell, and/or other programming and scripting languages to automate and orchestrate IT resources will be key to success. Job Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, install, upgrade, and maintain Linux systems.
- Automate processes using Bash or other scripting languages.
- Coordinate within cross-functional teams to architect, support, and maintain the Linux server ecosystem.
- Develop process and procedures for building and maintaining a secure, stable, and reliable infrastructure.
- Provide advanced operational support. Serve as an escalation resource and provide guidance to service desk staff and junior staff for resolving routine system issues.
- Manage, configure, and design systems for monitoring system performance and availability.
- Keep current on industry standards, emerging technologies, and services.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience OR a comparable combination of education, training, and experience
- Experience and proficiency in supporting Linux server systems
- Experience with scripted deployment and automation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Debian/Red Hat
- Experience with Puppet/Chef/Ansible
- Experience with data protection and disaster recovery strategies
- Familiarity with load balancing and proxy administration
