Load Planner, Warehouse (CLS) (1st Shift) – Lawrenceville GA

Overview:

Advises customers of the most cost effective methods of preparation of freight for shipment, rates to be applied and mode of transportation to be used. Within the scope of this position’s responsibilities, the incumbent must continually focus on the improvement of his/her processes in order to ensure the customer’s needs are met for high quality, cost effective logistics services while, at the same time, meeting corporate values and objectives.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Negotiates price and service issues for all modes of transportation carrier contracts and determines the appropriate mode to be utilized.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of logistical control data.
  • Provides training for departmental personnel in the economics of carrier and route selection.
  • Utilizes optimization software and determines the most cost effective routes and freight management which fully meet the customer service requirements of the client.
  • Directs scheduling of shipments and notifies concerned departments or customers of arrival dates.

Key Results:

  • Apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model for operational efficiency to improve business process, increase proficiency and increase efficiency through waste elimination.
  • Determines most efficient and economical routing and mode of transportation, using rate and tariff manuals, motor freight, and rail guidebooks.
  • Initiates investigations into causes of damages or shortages of consignments or over charges for freight or insurance.

Qualifications
Qualifications:

  • BS degree, or equivalent years of experience in Transportation on Logistics required.
  • Three to five (3-5) years minimum experience as a truckload broker, freight consolidator, freight forwarder, load planner, or dispatcher required
  • Position requires previous experience in load planning, building and scheduling truckload movements with stop offs, and LTL consolidations.
  • Knowledge of the motor carrier industry, laws and regulations is required. Industry related experience in communicating, negotiating, booking and load tendering to multiple motor carriers including for hire national and regional, as well as private fleet a must
  • Must be proficient in the use of PC’s, Microsoft Office and database management
  • Good oral and written communication skills

The hourly wage for this position is $21.73.
