Our Washington Trucking operations has an opening for a Logistics Planner. The position is a full time, non-exempt position with salary dependent on experience. The position will be located at the Longview, Washington trucking office. The work week is Monday through Friday, with rotating shifts covering the operating hours between 4:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The fundamental purpose of the Logistics Planner role is to serve as the liaison between harvest units and haul units. The key function is to identify and implement the optimal and most cost-effective method to transport logs utilizing dispatch software. With normal duties consisting of routine dispatching, scheduling, and planning, data entry, and other duties as needed.
Key Functions
- Work with team of planners to schedule drivers and contractors to ensure efficient use of all assets.
- Optimize daily orders generated by the logging operations, scheduling pickups and destination points to coincide with mill and log operation needs.
- Use integrated dispatch software to track loads ordered by each operation.
- Accurately update data in the computer database as driver or log loader calls in information to manage transportation, and route optimization.
- Upload and implement Log Loader orders for next day thru the Loader Application and web board.
- Communications over the radio, computer, and telephone are fast paced. Communications makes up 50% of the work.
- Maintain daily communication with drivers, mills, operations, and marketing to ensure that the production goals are met.
- First level operational exceptions require coordination and communication with truck managers.
- Respond to absence calls from drivers, assuring their driving activities are covered for the day and required documentation is completed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven commitment to safety with knowledge of safety processes
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate and interact effectively with truck drivers, contractors, harvest managers, mill customers and others
- Ability to work in a professional manner, take initiative to get the job done, and build customer relationships with strong people skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficient with computer usage and data input using integrated logistics software
- Ability to work under pressure while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work independently and as a team member
- Ability to work variable hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelors degree in related field
- Background in truck transportation and DOT regulation
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $55K – $82K based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours
