- Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with all state of Indiana adopted fire, building codes, and NFPA standards; resolves code issues during construction phase, and maintenance issues.
- Performs pre-fire planning, interprets blue prints for new construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and standards.
- Conducts training classes for students, faculty and staff on fire prevention subjects when requested; maintains records of inspection, training and certification.
- Responds to emergency alarms on campus; provides fire alarm and suppression system support in coordination with responding emergency crews.
- May provide guidance to fire alarm technicians and/or less experienced support staff; may be required to occasionally travel to other campuses to provide additional support for loss control investigation efforts.

- Associate’s degree

- Bachelor’s degree in fire science, public safety, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years building code inspection/enforcement and/or fire safety

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Hire

- Indiana Fire Inspector I and II Certifications upon date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
The person in this position will be utilizing equipment such as personal computers, fire extinguishers, testing devices, hand held radios, university vehicles, and 4 gas meter.
