Summary
This position assists the program staff with management of the frontline Drop-In Center and reception area at the Veteran Community Center.The Community Case Specialist works in a fast-paced reception area where up to 20 clients at a time may gather for services, and possibly more as we look to expand the scope and practice of our Drop-In services.
Essential Duties
- Oversees the day-to-day activities and ensure all client’s visiting have been helped and/or directed to the appropriate staff member for assistance in a supportive, welcoming, client-centered manner
- Ensure lobby area is clean, sanitized, and neatly organized
- Maintain resources/activities board to ensure clients are aware of all community opportunities and events within the Bay Area.
- Assist clients with forms and answer questions as they arise
- Receive, distribute, and sort mail
- Provide information about agency services in response to queries from the public and in response to clients seeking assistance
- Perform administrative tasks such as ECM data entry, filing, copying, scanning, faxing, and managing phone calls
- Provide transportation for clients with company vehicle
- Serve daily meals for clients, to include clean up
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation
- Perform data entry for billing and client related information
- Perform other related duties as requested by the Program Manager and Unit Director.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working with complex behavioral health and substance use challenges in a social services fast-paced office setting
- Translatable military experience and skills may be alternatively substituted
Requirements
- Strong written, communication and listening skills
- Computer literacy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Valid California Driver’s license, clean driving record
- Good attendance record
- Organized with attention to detail
- Ability to manage time efficiently
- Ability to appropriately respond to and resolve conflict
- Ability to pass Food Handler’s course upon hire
- Ability to work independently and as a team player
- Remain calm, respectful, and responsive when client issues arise or during an emergency
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and push a large dumpster
- Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative
- Employee must be able to perform functions of this position within what would be considered reasonable accommodations
Skills
- Engagement skills with veterans challenged by mental health and/or substance use challenges
- Crisis intervention, de-escalation and conflict resolution skills
- Comfortable working with veterans who may be intoxicated and/or presenting with mental health symptoms, both on site and while providing community-based support
