High School Digital/Graphics Arts Teacher

Job Title: LTS Teacher, Visual Arts, Grades 9-12

Reports to: Director of Fine Arts & Principal

Department: Fine Arts

Work Year: Approximately 12 weeks

FLSA Status: Exempt, Unit A

Compensation: $275 per day

Job Goal: The High School Digital & Graphics Arts Teacher fosters a love of the arts that encourages exploration, critical and reflective thinking, and a growth mindset that establishes a lifelong relationship with the arts. The Digital & Graphics Arts Teacher engages students in learning experiences that help them to gain proficiency in digital photography and graphic design, understanding artistic intent, and social emotional learning. Instruction aligns with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and district-level curriculum and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
  • Professional Certification Required:
    • MA DESE license in ART (PreK-12)
    • SEI Endorsement preferred
  • Specialized Knowledge: digital photography, DSLR camera operation, graphic design, understanding of Adobe Create Cloud software,elements and principles of design, child development, curriculum frameworks, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-bias instruction, social-emotional learning, technology integration
  • Hiring Requirement: Successful completion of DESE mandated CORI and fingerprinting
  • Preferred Experience
    • Teaching English Language Learners in a diverse public school setting
    • Working with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
    • Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design, e.g. Google Suite for Education, Adobe Creative Cloud, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Skills:
    • Create a welcoming, supportive, and equitable learning environment
    • Plan and implement differentiated lessons and ongoing formative assessment based on district objectives
    • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design with a demonstrated commitment to remain current in content knowledge
    • Partner and collaborate with team teachers, department colleagues, and specialists
    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
    • Integrate technology in order to enhance student learning

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE, but are not limited to:

  • Provides learning experiences in Digital Photography I, Digital Photography II, Graphic Design, and AP 2D Art & Design as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements
  • Monitors students’ understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials or assessments when appropriate
  • Evaluates and refines instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence in learning
  • Participates in professional development activities, specifically the ArtShare Program, and meets district expectations for licensure recertification
  • Participates in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
  • Any other relative duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The High School Digital Arts Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
