Description of Work:
The Maintenance/Construction Tech III will be responsible for participating in the maintenance program at Carvers Creek State Park. This position is directly responsible for assisting the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor I with coordinating and supervising the management of park maintenance operations. This involves maintaining and repairing facilities, utility systems, roadways, park equipment and vehicles. Assist the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor I in oversight of grounds, facilities, and equipment maintenance. This will include, but will not be limited to basic custodial responsibilities, boundary line clearing and maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and auto mechanics. Maintenance/Construction Tech III performs skilled tasks at the journeyman level in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance. This position must operate large and small equipment, work with and be familiar with all small and large tools, and make purchases in accordance with state purchasing policies. This position may assist in the hiring and recommending of applicants for future maintenance staff positions. This position may also interview, hire, and supervise assigned permanent maintenance staff and seasonal positions, park attendant positions and peak load park attendant positions. This position may be required to supervise permanent staff and may directly supervise seasonal staff, volunteers, community service clients and inmates.

Will be required to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  1. Working knowledge and skill performing Maintenance Construction Technician III level trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or auto mechanics.
  2. Working knowledge and skill in power equipment and small engine operation and repair.
  3. Working knowledge and skill in performing preventative facility and equipment maintenance.
  4. Working knowledge and skill working from blue prints, construction drawing, technical drawing or graphic instructions.
  5. Demonstrated experience working from sketches or pencil drawings
  6. Must meet DOA Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Within 12 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:

  • A valid Emergency Medical Responder Certification.
  • A valid CPR Certification.
  • Wild Land Fire Suppression Training
  • Division Sponsored Chainsaw Training

Within 360 days of hire, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:

  • A valid class A-Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to drive various classes of vehicles and tractors.

A skills assessment may be conducted during interview.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
