Why does the job exist?
The Maintenance and Repair Worker Operational ensures that all buildings are safely and efficiently maintained. To include repairing minor plaster, dry wall, paint, windows, doors, and floors of the building structures.
How does it get done?
The incumbent in this position will:
– Assist with maintenance tasks related to carpentry and construction.
– Perform snow removal duties as necessary.
– Handling daily maintenance work orders.
– Managing maintenance materials and supplies.
Who are the customers?
New Mexico State employees and visitors to State buildings.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this position has experience in the following:
– Building maintenance and repairs.
– Experienced in job safety practices.
– Experience with HVAC systems.
– Customer service skills.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or Equivalent and six (6) months of experience in general buildings and grounds maintenance, custodial duties, construction, plumbing, electrical and/or appliance repair. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift 25lbs, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and work in inclement weather (cold and hot). Must be able to shovel snow and carry tools and equipment from building to building on large campuses. Will be periodically “on call” for emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
