SALARY RANGE: $22.66 -$27.78 Per Hour

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs preventative and service maintenance related to building and grounds; operates vehicles and equipment as required; follows safety practices and procedures; follows codes and requirements pertaining to public facilities; performs custodial tasks as necessary; represents the Wooster City School District in a favorable image at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent
2. Technical training and/or experience in maintenance, repair, and/or custodial functions; (eg. carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, etc.)
3. A current, valid Class D Operators Drivers License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Repairs and maintains the safe condition of HVAC systems, lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, fixtures, wiring, refrigeration units and similar electrical elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district in accordance with current laws and regulations.
2. Repairs and maintains the safe condition of pipes, drains, plumbing fixtures and waste disposal systems in the facilities owned or operated by the district in accordance with current laws and regulations.
3. Repairs and maintains the safe condition of flooring, door frames, doors, window frames, staircases, stair treads, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, hardware and similar structural elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district in accordance with current laws and regulations.
4. Responsible for preventive maintenance in school facilities.
5. Examines school buildings and grounds on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
6. Determines which repair jobs may be performed in-house and which must be performed by outside contracts and advises the Maintenance Supervisor accordingly.
7. Supervises the installation and operation of all lighting and electrical sound equipment in auditoriums and gymnasiums for all special theatrical, athletic and other performance events.
8. Inspects and maintains fire alarm systems and fire extinguishers in accordance with current laws and regulations.
9. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase and maintains an inventory or district-owned tools, equipment and supplies.
10. Orders materials as needed, and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
11. Prepares reports on cost of work done, materials used, labor expended.
12. Maintains certificates and licenses required for the performance of job functions, (eq. asbestos, water systems, boilers, etc.)
13. Lifting and moving supplies, materials, equipment, etc.
14. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists co-workers as required.
2. Performs other tasks as may be required from time to time, including flexible scheduling for such jobs as snow removal.
3. Performs routine grounds tasks as directed.
4. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule, as needed, to meet the needs of the district.

INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS AND PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues.
2. Occasional operation of vehicles and other equipment under inclement weather conditions.
3. Occasional exposure to extreme heat.
4. Occasional exposure to fumes and/or emissions.
5. Occasioinal use of solvents, cleaning agents, etc., containing potentially hazardous chemicals.
6. Occasional performance of duties requiring extension ladders or scaffolding.
7. Occasional operation of tools and equipement.
8. Lifting and moving supplies, materials, and equipment (e.g., furniture, ladders, scaffolding, bags of salt and fertilizer, appliances, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
KNOWLEDGE OF: plumbing, masonry, HVAC systems, laws, codes and general maintenance and repair – electrical, carpentry, regulations, safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY TO: preform light to heavy physical labor over an extended period of time, lift and move 75 lbs. (e.g., bags of salt, cement, equipment, books, etc.), commicate effectively, develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the general public; utilize and operate standard tools of the trade.
SKILL IN: repair techniques and procedures; operation of hand and power tools.
