Description

Under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent or Senior Recreation Supervisor, performs limited semi-skilled manual labor, using a variety of duties associated with the maintenance of City of Melbourne tennis facilities including, clay and hard tennis court maintenance. Use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment will be required. Performs other work as required.

Examples of Duties

  • Performs a variety of clay court maintenance tasks, including operation of clay court roller and golf cart (with attachments), operate hose for manual watering, repair divots & low spots, apply Calcium Chloride, apply algaecide, remove and replace lines, scarify and remove dead material, add new clay, lute, water and roll clay to maintain level surface.
  • Performs a variety of hard court maintenance tasks, including operation of blowers and pressure washers, weed and insect control, repairing cracks, and pulling weeds.
  • Completes various painting projects.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance tasks, including, moving furniture and tennis equipment, repairing fences, carpentry work and cleaning.
  • Maintains and services golf cart, clay court roller, blowers and other equipment at all tennis facilities.
  • Fills and cleans shoe cleaners.
  • Cleans, installs, and lubricates nets, cranks and center straps.
  • Removes and re-hangs windscreens.
  • Repairs vandalism to grounds and buildings.
  • Performs clean up tasks such as emptying trashcans, cleaning municipal bathrooms.
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. (Proof of education must be uploaded with application).
  • Experience in manual work.
  • Hard and Clay tennis court maintenance experience preferred.

Licenses, Certifications or Registrations:

  • Valid State of Florida driver’s license required.

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance and tennis court maintenance.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate light truck and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform in hazardous conditions
  • Knowledge of installation and repair of poles and fences.
  • Knowledge of precautions necessary in repair and maintenance work.
  • Ability to understand M.S.D.S. sheets.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to hear, speak and understand conversations in various tones of voice, as well as accents. Use of senses, which include sight, smell, hearing and touch as aids in the evaluation and troubleshooting of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Ability to print and draw letters, numbers, words, characters, or symbols which are legible and understood by others.
  • Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
  • Ability to work regularly scheduled hours.
  • Ability to climb on and off motor-driven machinery.
  • Ability to make coordinated hand, eye, and foot movements.
  • Ability to make repeated downward thrusting motions with force.
  • Ability to pick-up and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to see and work in dimly lit conditions as necessary and during inclement weather.
  • Ability to learn simple to complex tasks and remember how to complete tasks without assistance once trained.
  • Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
  • Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
  • Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladder.
  • Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
  • Ability to lift items (weighing less than 50 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
  • Ability to hold items (weighing 1 to 50 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes, without putting the item down.
  • Ability to work in undesirable conditions including small, enclosed, or partially enclosed areas- dust, dirt, fumes, odors, noise, wetness, humidity, chemicals, static electricity, hot and cold.
  • Ability to work at heights above three (3) feet.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles (i.e., clay court roller, golf cart, pick-up truck, van, etc.), load or unload vehicles with object weighing up to 50 pounds.
