Position Overview
The Manager – Aquatic Facility Operations performs complex, comprehensive management and oversight of the daily maintenance and operations of aquatic facilities, well as the DISD partnership program. Work involves establishing short-, mid-, and long-term goals and objectives; developing guidelines, procedures, rules and regulations; developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving established goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and developing and evaluating budget requests. This includes enforcing policies, ensuring the adherence to state and local health and safety regulations, marketing and group sales, food and beverage operation, retail sales, preparation and monitoring of budget and revenues, and scheduling waterpark maintenance and repairs.
Essential Functions
Essential Job Functions
- Manages the year-round maintenance and operation of the City’s family aquatic centers and community swimming pools and the DISD aquatics partnership program.
- Manages the coordination of program, staffing, and operational schedules for all aquatic facilities throughout the city.
- Prepares operating policies for the aquatic centers and community pools and the procedures for Lead Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors, Pool Managers, Aquatic Center Managers, Lifeguards, and Community Service Representatives employees to utilize when working at assigned locations.
- Conducts analysis of aquatic facility operations including study of entry fees, analysis of concession sales and operations, study of days and hours of operation for optimal cost recovery, evaluation of capital improvements against cost recovery and prepare reports for department director and Board.
- Markets and promotes aquatic facilities citywide through print materials, developing promotional programs, and social media campaigns.
- Prepares and administers the operating budget ($2.5M) and Revenue ($1M+) for 17 aquatic facilities, including reaching revenue goals, establishing cash handling procedures and managing with appropriate segregation of duties among employees.
- Develops and presents reports on aquatic facilities before the executive staff and Park Board and meet with community and citizen groups.
- Establishes facility events and programs for the public.
- Monitors guest satisfaction through customer feedback systems.
- Serves on department-wide task forces or committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support division activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
Six (6) years of experience in the development, organization and operation of a water park, aquatics program or public swimming pool facility. AND three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
License and Certification
Must have a Texas class C driver’s license.
Must acquire the following certifications within six months of hire:
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Lifeguard, First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Food Managers Certification
- Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification
Education
Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or related field.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of managing all aspects of Waterpark or Aquatic facilities.
- knowledge of aquatic facility operations, maintenance, pool filtration and sanitation methods.
- Knowledge of Risk Management procedures, Emergency Action Plan development and safety programs pertaining to aquatic facilities.
- Skill in a Microsoft environment, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to provide exemplary customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
