Manager, Board Relations

OVERVIEW

The Manager of Board Relations is responsible for managing and coordinating communications with the Board of Directors and its Committees, planning and execution of all Board and Board Committee meetings, assisting the CEO, General Counsel, and Board in maintaining best practices for board governance and culture, scheduling, travel and expense coordination, and other duties. The manager, board relations is also responsible for providing other support as needed from time to time in the administration and operations of the Executive Office.

Under our CRFlex program, this is a hybrid position and is eligible for remote work up to 60%. The successful candidate must reside within 75 miles of one of our main CR office location (Yonkers, NY).

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

As the Manager, Board Relations you will work with executive leadership. Monitor, review and report progress on the Board’s Committee work plans to help ensure that all projects, tasks and responsibilities are completed or otherwise addressed. You will assist in preparation of the legally required components of CR’s Annual Meeting of members.

  • Serves as Secretary to the Board
  • Provides ongoing support to the CEO, Executive Leadership, and Board on Board-related matters, including advising on ways to improve current practices as needed
  • Maintains regular communication with and support of the Board Chair – in coordination with the Executive Leadership – on the planning, execution and follow-up of Board meetings and on other Board matters as needed or requested
  • Provides administrative support to the Board and Board Committees including project coordination, scheduling and organizing meetings, preparing agendas, assembling and circulating pre-read documents, preparing minutes, identifying and tracking action items, and handling other matters as needed or requested
  • Works with Committee Chairs in preparing and tracking execution of Committee work plans, and handling additional Committee-related matters that may arise, conducting annual charter reviews, and meeting other Committee needs and requirements
  • Prepares and manages Board information resources and support documents including the Board portal, Board Handbook, the annual calendar for Board and Committee meetings, membership rosters of the Board and its Committees, and such other documents for Board and staff use
  • Coordinates on- and off-site meetings for the Board and its Committees
  • Conducts research on behalf of the Board Chair and Board Committees into CR Board records, applicable NYS laws and best practices, and offers practical solutions to problems and for new initiatives
  • Maintains Board files including Bylaws, Committee Charters, Board briefing books, minutes of Board meetings, Board member records, and other key documents
  • Acts as staff liaison to the Governance Committee for Board nominations
  • Coordinates the on-boarding and orientation of new Board members
  • Coordinates Board assessments, retreats, and other planning tools and events as needed
  • Assists in the preparation of the Board budget and the subsequent tracking of actual vs. budgeted expenses
  • Handles travel expense statements for Board members

ABOUT YOU

You’ll Be Highly Rated If:

  • Minimum of six (6) years of related experience
  • Track record of strong organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities, deadlines and last-minute demands and/or changing circumstances
  • Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects, set realistic deadlines, manage time-lines and negotiate contracts
  • Ability to resolve routine problems independently when possible and with efficient consultation with supervisor when needed
  • Ability to anticipate needs and/or potential challenges

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE

At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $110k to $130k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
