This position is based out of Feeding America’s Chicago office. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (when not travelling for work) and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30-day “work anywhere” program during the course of each calendar year that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.

The Opportunity

The Manager, Communication – Donor Partnership will manage donor marketing communication and content efforts and assist with Feeding America content development, using a consistent organizational voice. By aligning donor campaigns with Feeding America’s strategic priorities and core messaging, help galvanize donors as part of the movement to end hunger.

Compensation
Here at Feeding America national organization, equity is central to our mission and is an integral part of our compensation policies and structures. Historically, systemic racism and sexism in all aspects of our society, including compensation practices, has led to pay inequities that negatively impact people of color, women, and especially women of color. These practices include basing salary offers on previous compensation and negotiating salary offers. As such, we maintain transparent salary ranges and clearly defined practices for how our team, including new hire salary offers, moves through these ranges. You can expect us to offer the best salary up front based on these clearly defined pay practices with little room for negotiation. The salary range listed below represents the starting to mid-point salaries for positions and comparable roles at this level at our organization and candidates should expect to be offered a salary near the starting point of the range that is listed on the job posting. We make exceptions for highly experienced (multiple years of at-level experience) new hires in accordance with our pay practices. Once hired, employees have the opportunity to progress through salary ranges via regular merit increases and step promotions.
Salary: $68,000 – $85,000+ Based on Experience

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with Development and Supply Chain teams, oversee communications for a portfolio of donors across all donor recognition levels.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies and implement tactics to build awareness, consideration and engagement with donor campaigns and strategies.
  • Draft and review external facing communication assets, including press releases, key messages, website content and customizable toolkit materials for food banks’ use, with a consistent brand “voice” reflective of Feeding America.
  • Ensure that content reflects the voices of people facing hunger in all communications, focusing on emphasizing strengths over needs.
  • Assist with creating and finalizing marketing communication content for donor campaigns and strategies.
  • Consult and/or liaise on all donor communication efforts, including media relations, entertainment industry and digital outreach, with colleagues on the Communication and Marketing teams.
  • Prepare briefs, fact sheets, talking points or other materials for Feeding America executive leadership in support of external donor communications.
  • Assist in the development of long-range marketing communication strategies for Feeding America and support organization’s objectives to generate greater awareness for the issue of food insecurity and, through partnerships, to help ensure equitable access to nutritious food for all in our country.
  • Collaborate with member food banks on media outreach activities, story development, local activation strategies and event planning related to donor partnerships.
  • Serve as a communication liaison for various organization projects that support Feeding America’s mission.
  • Collaborate with donors to oversee creation of content for Feeding America’s owned channels, as needed.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years professional communications experience; nonprofit or PR agency experience is a plus.
  • Superb editing and proofing skills; excellent oral & written communications skills, specifically for interacting with donor communities, national organization staff, network members, and senior management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and moderate fluency in multimedia creation tactics for social media campaigns, blog posts and newsletters.
  • Desire to work in a creative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content creation and repurposing for social media platforms.
