Job Summary:
The Sacramento River Cats are seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill the role of Manager, Field Operations. Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Field Operations, this position oversees the daily maintenance, preparation and upkeep of the playing field. As the Manager, you will lead all daily field-related maintenance practices, including Infield skin work, pitching mounds, and home plate maintenance. You will assist in timely fertility and cultural practices, game preparation techniques and short and long-term maintenance planning & budgeting.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise, mentor and train part-time game day staff for River Cats games and non-River Cat field events.
- Coordinate with the Sr. Director, Field Operations on staffing changes including interviews and hiring.
- Ensure schedules are up to date and review timesheets in preparation of payroll.
- As needed, hold the team accountable through coaching and discipline for performance, attendance, or violations of company or department policy.
Field Maintenance Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead in the daily maintenance and repair of the playing field that includes, but is not limited to turf (mowing, edging, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, over-seeding, discovery/control of weeds, insects, and diseases) and soil (infield skin, baselines, home plate, pitcher’s mound, bullpens, warning track) management.
- Assisting to help manage and maintain the irrigation system.
- Operate and maintain all equipment in a safe manner and keep in excellent working conditions.
- Assist in coordination and execution of infield tarp pulls.
- Track grounds department inventory (fungicides, pesticides, fertilizers, conditioners, paint etc.).
- Assist in the execution of non-River Cats related events that include but are not limited to high school baseball, concerts, graduations, corporate partner field days, winter events, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to quickly learn new software including timekeeping and applicant tracking software.
- Ability to multitask in a dynamic work environment while still providing effective leadership to the groundskeeping team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability and willingness to learn new techniques, skills, and practices.
- Pesticide training must be complete within 30 days from the date of hire.
Education and Experience:
- Two-year degree or equivalent experience preferably in Turfgrass Management.
- One year experience maintaining a professional baseball field meeting MLB standard.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, grasping, lifting, carrying, climbing ladders, kneeling, and pulling.
- Ability to lift to 75 pounds repetitively and for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate machinery and manage preventative maintenance for all equipment.
- In season ability to work all 75 games, additional events, and field preparation. Long hours each day and week should be expected.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions including direct sun exposure, hotter than average temperatures, cold, rain, and wind.
Compensation:
This position is a full-time, non-exempt role with an expected annual salary of $45,760-$52,000 inclusive of overtime. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.
