Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

KIPP DC seeks a Manager of Data Systems to join the Knowledge and Learning team. This individual will play an integral role by designing and maintaining data management and analytics systems for the Capital Teaching Residency (CTR), Fellowship in Special Education, New Teacher Support programming, School Leadership programming (Principals-in-Residence, Rising Leaders, New Deans and Coaches), and Teacher Leadership programming. To this end, this individual will develop extensive knowledge of each program’s structure, goals and priorities in order to track program progress and improve outcomes. In addition, this individual will provide tailored programmatic support to a wide range of stakeholders, including the creation and execution of an onboarding plan for incoming resident teachers and Fellows. The Manager of Data Systems will work closely with all members of the Knowledge and Learning team and will report to the Senior Director of Teacher Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Management & Systems – 35%

  • Collect and organize various datasets for all programs (CTR, Fellowship in Special Education, New Teacher Support, School Leadership, Teacher Leadership Development) on the Knowledge and Learning team
  • Design, maintain, and manage databases, visualization dashboards, and other data tracking systems primarily using QuickBase and Google Sheets in order to monitor teacher standing for the CTR and Fellowship in Special Education programs as well as to support other Knowledge and Learning team programs
  • Collaborate with regional teams (e.g. talent operations, data) to create and implement strong data management systems to monitor and track progress within the KIPP DC school and teacher leadership pipelines over time

Data Analysis & Strategy – 25%

  • Collaborate with program leads to design data strategy for all programs to track progress toward program-specific goals as well as the team’s DEI initiatives
  • Analyze and summarize quantitative and qualitative trends regularly for all programs
  • Support and model data-driven decision-making for the broader team

Talent & Finance Team Liaison – 20%

  • Partner with members of the broader talent team (specifically HR, recruitment and talent operations) to support onboarding and new hire communication, program recruitment, teacher development initiatives, and talent data management (e.g. hiring, retention, performance evaluation)
  • Serve as the finance team liaison to ensure Knowledge and Learning team compliance with finance policies
  • Create team system and processes for purchasing and budget tracking
  • Manage team budget to track annual food and supply spending for all programs on the Knowledge and Learning team (including collection and coding of receipts, team credit card use, etc.)
  • Design and execute a comprehensive onboarding plan for accepted CTR and Fellowship in Special Education applicants to ensure clear messaging of program requirements and key deadlines before program launch
  • Draft and communicate program Praxis policies and create tailored support options to assist teachers with studying for and passing exams

Compliance & Certification – 10%

  • Coordinate with state agencies to ensure that the CTR and Fellowship in Special Education certification programs remain in compliance (including project management of state licensure reporting)
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for the licensure process to support teachers in obtaining their certification, including Praxis exam requirements
  • Collaborate with external evaluators conducting studies of the program

General Team Support – 10%

  • Provide team support with digital platforms (Canvas, PandaDoc, etc.)
  • Support and potentially manage the team intern(s) with onboarding and logistical project management during the summer and school year

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A minimum of two years in a data management and analytics role, preferably in an education or non-profit setting OR 2 years of teaching experience.
  • Prior experience with Quickbase,Workday, and/or and Tableau preferred
  • Experience with data collection, organization, management, quality control, and process documentation for multiple programs and/or large-scale projects
  • Experience designing and maintaining relational databases, data visualization tools, and trackers (prior experience with Quickbase strongly preferred; prior experience with Workday and Tableau preferred)
  • Strong data analysis and reasoning skills to surface actionable insights and trends, including advanced proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience creating data strategy development for specific programs based on upon goals
  • Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions and communicate decisions to key stakeholders
  • Experience using SQL (or other programming or scripting languages such as R, Python, C++, etc.) to extract and manipulate data preferred
  • Passion for education reform and the belief that every child can succeed

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary for this position is $71,615-$85,256. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
  • As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid work. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.
