THE OPPORTUNITY
Located in the heart of San Francisco, the Asian Art Museum is home to one of the world’s finest collections of Asian art, boasting more than 18,000 inspiring artworks ranging from ancient jades and ceramics to contemporary video installations. Currently, we are seeking an Manager of Human Resources to join our team. Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources or designee, the Manager of Human Resources performs a variety of a Human Resources related duties including managing, planning and directing day to day people operations and activities, including supervising HR staff members. The incumbent will be creative and resourceful and will serve as both a strategic thought partner and tactical executor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages all day-to-day people operations activities, including but not limited to recruitment, classification, compensation, data management and record retention, equal employment opportunities, employee relations, labor relations, benefits administration, employee safety and workers’ compensation.
- Supervises, mentors, and evaluates HR staff members in coordination with the Director of Human Resources.
- Supports the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF) personnel functions as needed.
- Manages the analysis and development of administrative processes, procedures and including electronic/digital forms, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental work practices.
- Directs or conducts varied analytical studies and regulatory reports.
- Assists with employee grievances as needed, conducting research and/or investigations to determine the validity of grievant complaints; and renders decisions, as appropriate.
- Assists Director of Human Resources in planning and conducting labor negotiations.
- Manages workers compensation process and escalates complex or sensitive issues.
- Tracks attendance and administers leave (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, etc.) in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws and regulations.
- Administers and documents the interactive process regarding employee accommodation requests. Escalates complex or sensitive issues.
- Assists with providing guidance to supervisory staff on employee relations issues, recruitment, performance management, and similar issues. Escalates complex or sensitive issues.
- Coordinates special events and manages employee recognition initiatives.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Establishes and nurtures strong working relationships with museum staff, colleagues from other institutions, consultants, and vendors.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures including employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, benefits administration, workers compensation administration, training and other areas of human resources as well as organizational initiatives relating to and/or impacting human resources.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local employment regulations.
- Advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication, active listening and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Comfort with HRIS and data-driven decision making to implement changes and growth.
- Ability to work effectively in a human resources environment encompassing both private and public regulations.
- Ability to manage and improve a system of internal controls in a growing/changing organization.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with a variety of representatives of public and private organizations; City and County representatives; museum staff and the general public.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Human Resources or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of general human resources experience with two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of UKG (formerly UltiPro) HRIS.

COMPENSATION
The Asian Art Museum is committed to practicing salary transparency. The minimum salary for this position is $85,000 and the maximum salary is $100,000. Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity. This opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to:
