Our legal team seeks an experienced Patent Litigation Paralegal who can, together with Netflix’s Director of Patent Litigation and Patent Litigation Counsel, help manage Netflix’s global patent litigation docket and patent dispute caseload.
Based in Los Gatos, this is a fast-paced role that requires critical thinking and problem solving, a high level of organization, and solid experience with all phases of patent litigation. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct and coordinate outside counsel and firm support personnel, including law firm attorneys, paralegals, and e-discovery staff, and work closely with internal partners on a variety of tasks and matters;
- Provide overall case management and support including case intake and tracking, and managing patent litigation docket and calendar;
- Provide support for and project manage all aspects of fact investigation and discovery, serve as point of contact for and liaison to Netflix witnesses and custodians;
- Coordinate with and provide support to internal clients, cross-functional partners, and external stakeholders regarding calendaring and other case needs, as well as cross-functional projects and tasks;
- Assist with the drafting of preservation notices and administer the litigation hold process for Netflix patent matters;
- Manage process for receiving, assessing, responding to and tracking third-party subpoenas and other requests for information related to patent matters;
- Collaborate with and provide backup for other legal professionals supporting litigation and other corporate legal functions;
- Manage tech tools and resources used by the Patent Litigation Team;
- Support and manage the patent litigation budget process, including tracking forecasts to budget, and reviewing and approving invoices;
- Actively look for opportunities to improve or establish team strategies, guidelines, processes, and procedures, to enable Netflix’s Patent Litigation Team to provide best-in-class service to its internal clients and cross-functional business partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 7 years of patent litigation paralegal experience, including law firm paralegal experience and substantial recent in-house litigation experience;
- Familiarity with and understanding of patent litigation motion practice, discovery, trial and appellate procedures, and the ability to administratively manage all phases of a patent litigation matter;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to work cross-functionally and across borders with multicultural EQ;
- A thorough understanding of discovery procedures and familiarity with e-discovery tools, most notably Relativity, Google Suite, Google Vault, and Google’s Data Analytics platform;
- Fluency in and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Airtable, Slack, and Google Suite;
- Experience managing complex and sometimes ambiguous projects, with a broad set of stakeholders;
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments, and to work proactively, independently, and reliably under tight time-frames with a high attention to detail, while maintaining a sense of humor and positive attitude;
- Familiarity with LexisNexis or Westlaw, Pacer, and Lex Machina.
