Reports to: Sr Director Gas Operations
Location: Orange, CT or Rochester, NY
Salary Range: $111,000-$145,000

Purpose

Manages and directs a staff compromised of internal field supervisors and field resources, combination of internal & external employees across Avangrid Networks. Responsible for regulatory compliance of the mandated corrosion control program for NYSEG (New York State Electric & Gas), RG&E (Rochester Gas & Electric), BGC (Berkshire Gas Company), CNG (Connecticut Natural Gas), & SCG (Southern Connecticut Gas). Prepares and communicates corrosion program status and performance reports and ensures records for corrosion inspection, monitoring and identification of remedial activities in the group are completed on operational schedule. Ensures compliance of the mandated cathodic protection system data including pipe/soil voltage readings, rectifier and interference bond operational readings, atmospheric inspection databases, and other assigned group monitoring activities. Identifies employee development and training opportunities within the department. Responsible for proper application and availability of all necessary tools and equipment needed to perform corrosion control functions in the group. Develops and maintains annual inspection and monitoring schedules in accordance with all regulatory requirements. May recommend remedial actions to restore cathodic protection systems to mandated performance criteria. Responsible for all electronic corrosion data inspection processes and inspection databases. Supports Gas Field Operations and other departments in corrosion related activity. Applies company, industry, local, state, national codes, and standards, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Manages technical support contractors and consultants. Reviews, maintains, and utilizes SAP equipment data and SAP processes supporting the corporate use of contractor/consultant resources.

Employee is assigned to a primary corporate location with travel to other operating divisions or Avangrid locations as needed. Occasional work outside of the service territory for industry or government meetings or training may occur.

Responsibilities

  • Manages Supervisors to ensure employees and contractors perform corrosion control work activities to meet Federal and State mandated requirements.
  • Responsible to develop policies/procedures and schedule work to safely meet or exceed departmental and corporate goals and objectives.
  • Oversee department’s initiatives, the preparation of budgets and the tracking, cost control, and reporting of actual O&M and capital expenditures using SAP and other reporting methods.
  • Responsible for employee goals and objectives and ensuring alignment with department and corporate goals. Performs individual performance evaluations, recommends candidates for hire and salary adjustments, provides coaching and counseling toward performance improvement and guides development of staff in group. Manages the application of the union labor agreement.
  • Responsible for the preparation and communication of reports to document performance in meeting department, corporate, and regulatory code and goal requirements.
  • Represent the company on various teams or committees with Avangrid, State, regional or national issues. Act as liaison for the Company with customers and with state and municipal agencies to coordinate efforts.
  • Interfaces with and supports Gas Planning, Engineering and Delivery and Gas Field Operations. Provides resources and technical expertise to support the design, operation, maintenance and inspection of distribution and transmission systems.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:

  • Associate degree in a technical field of study with a minimum of 7 years of technical experience in gas systems or related experience.

-or-

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with minimum of 5 four years of technical experience in gas systems related experience is also acceptable.

-or-

  • Numerous years with front line Corrosion supervisor field experience, with strong natural gas system institutional knowledge. Current NACE CP-1 or greater certification.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Technical skills in the field of corrosion operations and knowledge of gas distribution.
  • Good oral and written skills.
  • Teamwork orientated.
  • Technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage complex databases.
