Manager, UX

Overview

As the UX Design Manager at PowerSchool, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the design direction, strategy, and execution of our products/services. You will lead a team of skilled UX designers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment while ensuring the delivery of high-quality design solutions. Your expertise in connecting the dots, identifying the big picture, and driving a vision in ambiguity will be essential in navigating complex challenges and driving innovation.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
Team Management and Mentorship (40%):

  • Lead and manage a team of 2-6 UX designers, providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to help them grow in their careers.
  • Cultivate a positive, inclusive team culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Utilize your ability to connect the dots and identify the big picture to guide the team in aligning design efforts with overarching business goals.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations for each team member, ensuring optimal team performance and productivity.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and provide constructive feedback to help team members achieve their potential.
  • Identify opportunities for skill development and training, both individually and collectively, to enhance the team’s capabilities.

Hands-On Execution (20%):

  • Demonstrate your deep expertise in UX design by actively contributing to design projects creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, to translate business requirements into effective design solutions.
  • Apply your ability to connect the dots and identify the big picture to ensure design solutions align with the broader user experience strategy.
  • Lead by example, showcasing best practices in user-centered, interaction, and visual design to inspire your team.

Strategy and Planning (40%):

  • Develop and drive the UX design strategy in alignment with the company’s overall product and business goals.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to define design requirements, user stories, and project scopes.
  • Utilize your ability to connect the dots and identify the big picture to synthesize complex information and guide strategic design decisions.
  • Identify and partner with the user research team to gather customer feedback to inform design decisions and iterate on existing designs.
  • Identify trends, opportunities, and emerging technologies in the UX design space to keep the team at the forefront of industry innovation.
  • Create and manage project timelines, ensuring timely delivery of design milestones and product releases.

Qualifications

Qualifications :
To be considered for and perform this job successfully, an individual must perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability.
Qualifications include:

  • 5-7 years of UX Design experience, with 4+ years in a leadership role, preferably in enterprise software.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly focused team environment.
  • Self-starter and with demonstrated initiative.

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $72,500 – $150,000. The compensation range is specific to the United States and incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
