We are now hiring for a Managing Attorney to join the Health, Housing & Economic Stability Practice Group in our Legal Aid Society team!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the day-to-day operations of services within the practice group, including supervision of management staff and some non-management staff.
- Manages grant compliance within the practice group, including budget matters, reporting requirements, data collection, training requirements, setting grant expectations, reporting requirements, audits, and other duties in order to meet all requirements of grants in support of practice group activities.
- Supports and oversees practice group supervisors with developing defining expectations, ensuring accurate case management, record keeping and reporting of results and client outcomes, as well as developing and retaining high-performing staff.
- Handles a limited caseload, and co-counsels with staff on complex and sensitive litigation matters.
- Ensures high quality, trauma informed services, are provided across the practice group at all times.
- Participates in program planning and in the implementation of program goals and visions alongside the Executive Director.
- Maintains knowledge of the status of cases and projects in area of responsibility, and appropriate statistics as to activities supervised. Reports on such activities as requested.
- Will handle occasional program-wide or agency wide assignments at the management level.
- Identifies and pursues funding and partnership opportunities in collaboration with the Executive Director and key MFS staff.
- Participates, in consultation with the director, in public relations activities of the Legal Aid Society and Metropolitan Family Services, including collaborating with other collaborating programs/groups and contacts with government officials and community leaders.
- Works across LAS to ensure the success of the entire organization.
- Maintains and builds group capacity to expand services when needed, stays current with all appropriate legal and social service matters affecting LAS practice areas, and continually works to integrate legal services with MFS’ vast array of programs across the agency.
- Other management duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must by licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois.
- A minimum of six years of experience in the general practice of law in the field of legal aid.
- Previous management/leadership experience required.
- Ability to supervise, train, and develop both professional and non-professional personnel; to direct operations of a legal service unit; to administer and implement organizational policy; and to represent the program and agency at the managerial level.
- Must demonstrate continued commitment to LAS mission and success of all projects and initiatives across the organization.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- MFS staff are required to provide proof of vaccination or have an approved Medical exemption prior to starting employment. If an approved Medical exemption is obtained, weekly testing may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
SALARY:
- Compensation is commensurate with years of related experience, position requirements, and candidate qualifications. The average salary for the position is $82,905
