Description

As the Managing Immigration Attorney, you will:
• be responsible for managing legal staff to complete a high-volume caseload of various
immigration matters.
• provide broad-based immigration advice, counseling, and direct legal representation to
displaced persons and mentor volunteer attorneys, and other team members.
• devise creative solutions to maximize the efficiency of the legal team.
• collaborate with the Director of Legal Services to design and implement new projects;
strategize staffing structures; and
• represent LSSNCA at meetings with other legal service providers and partners.
Essential Functions
• Manages a team handling a high-volume caseload of immigration matters, including
asylum, family-based petitions and visas, adjustment of status, employment
authorization requests, naturalization, hardship waivers, cancellation of removal, Uand T-Visas, and other motions and legal memoranda.
• Supervises, assigns cases and mentors legal staff and others.
• Trains interpreters, volunteer attorneys, and others to assist the legal team.
• Develops creative solutions to maximize the efficiency of the legal team in supporting
a large number of clients with protection needs.
• Creates and enforces standard procedures to organize and maintain client files and
casework.
• Fosters strategic partnerships with local law schools and other organizations to help
mitigate the scarcity of pro/low bono immigration providers.
• Collaborates with the Director of Legal Services to adapt the legal immigration
program as necessary in response to policy changes and evolving community needs.
• Demonstrates creative problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate and address
challenges by proposing effective solutions.
• Works with the Director of Legal Services and the CIS Manager on outreach
strategies to local communities to increase fee-for-service demand and capacity.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum of six (6) years of practicing law, with a preference for experience in
immigration and/or human rights law.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise a team of legal professionals.2 | Page
• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively on various projects with lawyers, staff
members, and diverse community organizations and coalitions.
• Strong team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and
communication with others.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced nonprofit start-up environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in legal and non-legal settings with a wide range of
individuals and organizations, with strong public speaking and presentation skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of
managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to
establish priorities and meet internal and external deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to a constantly changing legal environment by acquiring and applying
new subject matter expertise.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and knowledge of database management.
