Job Summary:
Located in the college’s Office of External Relations, the associate director of marketing will play a leadership role in developing and executing marketing plans across all channels that support college goals related to student recruitment, private philanthropy and other priorities. Reporting to the associate dean for external relations and advancement, the marketing associate director will grow the college’s brand and digital engagement, promote academic programs and lead market research. This position will supervise two marketers while collaborating with other communication professionals – including editors, writers, photographers, graphic and web designers – within the Office of External Relations, as well as faculty and staff in Academic Affairs, academic departments and the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association.
Principle duties
-In consultation with colleagues across the college, create and execute marketing plans in support of college programs
-Gather and analyze market research to identify target audiences, demand for CALS programs and efficacy of marketing campaigns
-Oversee CALS digital marketing plans and collaborate with others in External Relations to implement these initiatives
-Write marketing copy and contribute to marketing materials
-Develop and track budgets related to college marketing efforts
-Contribute to the college’s goals for a positive, open and equitable climate
-Supervise two marketing positions including social media and event planning

Responsibilities: Directs the development of marketing strategy and maintains responsibility for implementing marketing plans in support of institution, unit, and/or program goals.
- 15% Develops relationships, brand strategies, and marketing plans for communicating institutional information
- 10% Directs marketing projects, including the design and production of internal and external publications
- 5% Serves as an institutional representative at various events and conferences, presenting information about the institution’s programs and services
- 25% Develops marketing programs and campaigns that align with strategic marketing objectives of an institution, unit, and/or program
- 10% Contributes to budget development and forecasting, and approves resource allocations within budget parameters
- 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 15% Coordinates market research efforts, including working with appropriate outside vendors.

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
-5 years of demonstrated experience creating, executing and evaluating marketing efforts
-1-2 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role
-Conducting and/or compiling market research and using it to inform strategic marketing plans
-Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
-Working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, e-mail marketing and marketing automation tools (Salesforce, Constant Contact, Eloqua, etc.)
-Successfully writing marketing copy and creating marketing materials. (Examples of success: customer growth, increased event attendance or website traffic, social media engagement, email or phone inquiries, etc.)
-Working with digital platforms and creating social media engagement that supports a brand
-Managing or editing websites, including using content management systems (WordPress preferred)
-Experience representing cultural differences in marketing and communications materials in ways that inspire action and promote organizational goals
Preferred Qualifications:
-Marketing or communication experience within a higher education setting
-Familiarity with agricultural and/or life sciences
-Experience in event planning
-Knowledge of nonprofit or higher education fundraising strategies
-Experience in recruiting and enrolling students
License/Certification:
Preferred
Digital marketing certifications such as Google Career Certificate in Digital Marketing and E-commerce or AMA Professional Certificate in Digital Marketing

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.Up to 20% remote work.
Normal hours are 7:45am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for this position.
