Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Reports directly to the Dean
- Serves as a strategic consultant for the Deans and school administrators regarding comprehensive communication and marketing strategies in support of the teaching, research, and community engagement activities of the school.
- Partners with the school’s leadership groups to create strong branding, messaging and communication for the school’s success.
- Develops and implements communication strategies to establish and advance the branding and core message of the Luddy School.
- Implements recommended tactics and work closely with the Dean in the overall management of the school’s public image, including increasing brand awareness of the school in the state of Indiana.
- Participates in the development and ongoing refinement of the strategic plan and be responsible for assisting in the advancement of all organizational goals; leading initiatives specific to marketing and communication.
- Leads the Office of Marketing and Communications and oversee a staff of 3 employees.
- Develops and articulates the school’s message, provides leadership and collaborative support for unifying this message, and identifies and facilitates appropriate avenues of distribution.
- In alignment with the school’s priorities, works closely with the undergraduate recruitment team to help grow the pipeline of undergraduate students interested in Luddy.
- Runs a large-scale marketing campaign to increase awareness of the Luddy School among prospective students and other influencers.
- Works with both undergraduate and graduate recruitment teams to develop and execute recruitment material and identifies new channels to promote programs to pro selective students.
- Leads the team in the development of communication and marketing materials, supporting all areas of the Luddy School, including the school’s website, print and digital marketing, press releases and feature stories, special event materials, social media content.
- Supervises contracts with external vendors to execute these activities to the specifications set forth by the school.
- Manages the school’s sponsorship budget to enhance visibility and engagement in industry and the community.
- Creates and maintains school-level style guide for unified branding of messaging.
- Facilitates the distribution of communications and marketing materials within the overall budget, making strategic decisions to optimize outcomes and leverage the inertia of ongoing programs.
- Supports the school’s goals in faculty and student recruitment, student retention, alumni and donor relations, corporate and employer relations, and community involvement.
- Works with the faculty and staff in the school to communicate the mission and vision for the school through various avenues; ensuring a unified message and effective delivery in all venues.
- Serves on academic and professional committees within the school.
- Serves as a spokesperson and representative of the Dean and the Luddy School, responding to internal and external information requests, interviews, and comment requests, with extraordinary professionalism and discretion.
- Works in concert with and function as a liaison between Luddy and IU Communications and Marketing as well as other campus and university marketing and communication offices.
- Serves as a liaison with various university departments and offices. Actively participate in school and campus activities and events to foster support and engagement in development efforts.
General Responsibilities
- Directs operations for the marketing and communications function by providing oversight and direction within a department, large multi-faceted department, or multiple departments.
- Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of a team of Marketing Generalists and/or Marketing Assistants.
- Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders; determines marketing needs, projects, and programs to align with objectives and goals and supervises processes such as the development of marketing timelines related to such initiatives.
- Independently develops, evaluates, and executes basic and highly complex strategic marketing plans for a department, functional area within a department, or large, multi-faceted department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation.
- Responds to escalated and complex inquiries and requests from direct reports and stakeholders; acts as a resource and explains policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assists in budget planning and administration for marketing initiatives, including expenditures, revenue projections, and project and program costs.
- Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty; monitors industry trends and best practices, makes process and operational and strategic recommendations to manager, and assists in implementing procedural changes.
- May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Leaders.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
