Marketing Manager

Summary

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) is seeking a Marketing Manager to be a part of our team. The Marketing Manager will develop, implement and oversee the strategy and execution of marketing plans for programs across the organization by working closely with the creative team and other teams to build the Alumni Association’s brand for assigned alumni engagement categories.

Responsibilities*

  • Partner with the marketing team and assigned program areas to create and execute strategic marketing campaigns that help build the Alumni Association’s brand through the use of digital marketing, direct mail, print and online advertising, email, social media, and live events.
  • Organize, prioritize, and project manage multiple marketing campaigns simultaneously, while ensuring campaigns and projects are completed according to timelines.
  • Utilize research and analytics to distill insights and key learnings into a creative brief to provide clear direction and rationale to the art and communications team.
  • Identify new marketing opportunities to reach and engage alumni by understanding core needs, business drivers, and new ways to reach alumni in a changing market.
  • Work collaboratively within the Marketing team, the Association, and the University to develop synergistic programs.
  • Write and edit marketing copy when necessary.
  • Provide hands-on direction to the marketing staff and Association staff/volunteers around key marketing strategies to help build and ensure consistency with the Association’s brand.
  • Manage external parties such as creative agencies, consultants or freelancers as needed.
  • Oversee the budget and be financially responsible (e.g., managing monthly spending, forecasting, and stewarding) for the Alumni Association’s resources by aligning programs with organizational goals.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
  • Value and embrace different identities and diversity of thought recognizing that everyone has unique and different experiences that contribute to the best solution seeking and success for AAUM.
  • Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility.
  • Be inclusive and collaborative with every other member of the staff and every other team. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan.
  • Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
  • Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement into work.
  • Staff team and Alumni Association events.
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers.
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
  • Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings.
  • Share knowledge through internal communication.
  • Support the Alumni Association’s vision of becoming more relevant to all alumni.
  • Remain current with respect to technology and the University’s educational resources.

Supervision Received

Direct supervision is received from the Audience Development Manager.

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of a proven track record in marketing and branding success or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in developing and executing marketing strategies.
  • Ability to write and edit marketing copy.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in utilizing integrated marketing communication tools including advertising, direct mail, public relations, collateral and digital media.
  • Highly organized and self driven with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the creative process with a strategic mindset.
  • Ability to think strategically, including analyzing data, extracting trends and applying findings to improve products.
  • Ability to utilize Google suite including mail, sheets, docs, slides, chat, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability and passion to build your own digital skill set.
  • A proven ability to generate creative, innovative solutions to issues with a can-do attitude with a mindset to be results-driven.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with colleagues in a multicultural and diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess scenarios and make decisions

Work Locations

The AAUM is currently working in a hybrid or remote work setting based on job duties. This position requires some in person work for meetings and collaboration, but may work a hybrid schedule.

Additional Information

AAUM welcomes applications from people of all abilities. This particular position requires the occasional moving of 10 lbs or less.

This position may require some evening and weekend work.
