Marketing Manager, Inklore (Manga, Manhwa, Pop Comics), (Open to Remote)

The Random House marketing department is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Marketing Manager to join the Inklore team. Reporting to the Assistant Marketing Director, this position provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in an innovative and hands-on department as the representative of a brand-new imprint dedicated to publishing the best in manga, manhua, manhwa, webcomics adaptations, and light novels for the English-language market. We are a highly collaborative team who love to bring our authentic style of nerdery to our favorite fictional worlds.

Some of the internationally-recognized brands Inklore will publish include: Lore Olympus, Under the Oak Tree, My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999, and Cherry Blossoms After Winter.

The Marketing Manager will oversee title marketing campaigns and ongoing growth initiatives for the imprint, including online promotions, consumer convention planning, influencer outreach, social media, advertising, and overall creative strategy. They will be the main marketing contact for licensors and will assure that marketing campaigns satisfy both Inklore and partner goals.

The ideal candidate will have experience strategizing on and executing campaigns for comics, graphic novel and/or manga marketing, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

The Role:

  • Crafts and executes marketing campaigns for multiple authors, creators, and brands with the goal of driving reader engagement and sales
  • Helps with the strategic planning and on-site management of various consumer-facing pop culture conventions such as Anime Expo, Anime NYC, SDCC, and NYCC
  • Identifies available audiences for each book and ways to reach them through advertising, promotion, and social media while also keeping up-to-date on new platforms and marketing methods
  • Manages multiple marketing projects with varying timelines
  • Collaborates on the creative strategy for the Inklore social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Develops, researches, and maintains strong relationships with key partner stakeholders
  • Works closely across departments with editorial, publishing, sales, and creative services (including social media, email marketing, design, copy, media buyers)

Excellent internal and external communication and organizational skills are required. Candidates should have demonstrated success in a fast-paced work environment that necessitates managing complicated schedules and attention to detail, be adept in time management, and proven ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative setting.

Inklore is a collaborative publishing environment, and candidates should be comfortable working as part of a team and willing to go the extra mile for authors and licensing partners.

This position has the flexibility to be completely work-from-home, hybrid, or local to New York City.

The Essentials:

  • At least 4-6 years of relevant marketing or publicity experience; experience in comics, manga, or graphic novel book marketing a plus
  • A passion for: fandom, comics and manga, reading, initiative, innovation, collaboration, and curiosity
  • Strong verbal and written communication and pitching skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms as a marketing tool, with fluency in Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook platforms
  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign, or an interest in learning these skills
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues
  • Experience and comfort presenting in front of large groups including internal meetings
  • Ability to work independently in a proactive manner and collaborate with the team when needed
  • Proficiency in creative problem solving and decision making
  • A goal-oriented team player who can cultivate a productive working relationship
  • A motivated self-starter, strategic thinker and team player
  • Interest in attending consumer conventions such as Anime Expo, Anime NYC, SDCC, and NYCC
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams)

The salary range for this position is $70,000-$73,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results. Kindly include your cover letter and resume in our application system.
