Job Summary:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, animal health observations, routine and clinical animal care treatments, animal handling, milking, feeding, cleaning, and research data collection. This person will need to be able to accurately prepare, blend, and deliver various research and herd diets to lactating animals, and collect composite milk samples in an AAALAC accredited dairy heifer and lactating cow research operation. The position will uphold the cleanliness of the milking facility and cows to grade A standards.

Responsibilities: Collects samples and administers medication and treatments, in addition to feeding and maintenance responsibilities, to ensure compliance with animal care regulations and support research and instruction.
- 10% Collects samples from animals and administers medications, injections, and treatments according to established protocols and procedures to be used for diagnostic tests and research
- 20% Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies
- 5% Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to established schedules and specifications
- 5% Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure optimal and safe operation
- 5% Maintains organization of and updates records related to research procedures
- 55% Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reports concerns to the appropriate entities to contribute to the health and well-being of animals and promote research

This is a 60% appointment. Normal hours are 4:30 am to 1:00 pm and include one weekend day per week. Occasional holiday work will be required for this position.
