The Maternal and Child Health Coordination (MCHC) Manager is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of MCHC activities for the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD). This position works to meet the mission of the SCHD by promoting the wellness of Sedg. Co. residents through management and oversight of the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) process, MCH Community Health Services, MCH Outreach activities, and Community Provider Referral Network development. This position may deploy to the field as a responder or in a leadership position during public health emergencies (Activation Level 3).
Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Project Management
- Coordinate, lead, and provide guidance to Case Review and Community Action Teams
- Serve as a liaison to community leaders, physicians, hospitals, related family service providers and agencies, civic groups, advocates, and others
- Provide technical assistance in grant writing
- Prepare statistical and narrative grant reports; monitor progress of achievement of grant objectives and develop and recommend remedial plans.
- Provide presentations to local, state, and federal partners on infant mortality and consults with partners on ways in which they can play a role in improving birth outcomes and reducing infant mortality as needed.
- Assist in the implementation and development of evidenced based or promising practice programming around infant mortality.
- Identify and implement population health strategies (e.g. inter-conception care, smoking cessation, safe sleep for infants, breast feeding advantages, substance use avoidance, etc.) to reduce infant mortality and promote positive birth outcomes Responsible for recruitment of new organizations participating in the IRIS referral network program
- Participate in statewide FIMR meetings
Community Collaboration
- Participate in national, state, and local Maternal and Infant Health Coalitions and other relevant local community meetings
- Participate and attend conferences and trainings relevant to MCH work
- Lead efforts to expand participation in the Integrated Referral and Intake System (IRIS)
- Serve as project manager for organizational and community-based projects as they occur.
- Assess community needs related to maternal and child health
Staff Supervision
- Responsible for providing supervision and leadership to FIMR Chart Abstractor, CFH Outreach Specialist, CFH Community Health Worker, and student interns
- Provides monthly supervision through one on one meeting’s with direct reports.
- Provide consultation to staff on MCH care coordination issues. Engage in collective impact and community engagement activities to improve MCH
- Work with relevant schools and university programs to recruit student interns for community outreach and research projects and service
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or related field. Two years’ experience in maternal and child health or related field. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100, 200, and 700 courses within 30 days of employment. In order to comply with the requirements of the federal health care staff COVID-19 vaccination mandate, all employees of COMCARE and the Health Department must be fully vaccinated. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Public Health or related field. Three years’ experience with data analysis (quantitative and qualitative). One year of program evaluation experience. Three years’ experience working in maternal and child health.
