The Strategic Operations (StratOps) Strategic Capabilities Unit, consists of Washington DC Operations, Marketing & Communications and Strategic Development. The StratOps team promotes and elevates the business within our markets, works with customers and competition to influence and drive the growth of Ball Aerospace and facilitates collaboration across the business enterprise to increase opportunities.

Marketing & Communications Specialist III – STEM & Outreach Specialist

Ball Aerospace is searching for an experienced, results-oriented STEM & Outreach Specialist III to join the Marketing & Communications team (MarCom). This position is part of the Strategic Operations (StratOps) organization, which consists of Washington DC Operations, Marketing & Communications and Strategic Development.

As a key member of the MarCom team, the STEM & Outreach Specialist’s primary purpose is to

support Ball Aerospace’s community outreach, including science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), which includes developing and organizing STEM and outreach events, workshops and event-related resources and materials that align with Ball Aerospace’s strategy. This role also works closely with the Ball Corporation Community Relations team on community outreach activations and activities.

What You’ll Do:

  • In partnership with the STEM & Outreach Manager, help execute on a comprehensive community and STEM outreach plan that aligns with Ball Aerospace’s strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop and design education and outreach materials that will appeal to various ages, from K-12 grades to college level.
  • Work alongside the STEM & Outreach Manager on the recruitment and training of volunteers.
  • Oversee volunteer coordination and supervision of Ball STEM and outreach events and in collaboration with other organizations.
  • Work with MarCom team to develop materials to promote STEM and outreach events (including social media, press releases, web features and internal stories and promotional tools).
  • Work closely with the Customer Engagement and Events team on potential STEM activations aligned with our customer events, trade shows and launches.
  • Write STEM & outreach related website features, internal stories and social media posts.
  • Collaborate and partner with the Ball Corporation Community Relations team to support global outreach and community efforts.
  • Take photos and video at STEM & outreach events as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to a Ball Aerospace business unit or function, which will include developing a strategic communications plan for that business or function and working with the MarCom team to execute on all internal and external communications to support that business/function.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 6 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and comfortability working independently or in a team setting.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Experience with planning and managing events with many moving parts.
  • Experience developing STEM-related education materials.
  • Flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends and the ability to travel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
  • Some photography and video experience.
  • Experience with Photoshop preferred.
  • Experience recruiting volunteers for STEM & outreach events preferred.

Flexible On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site for three or more days per work week. Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $75,000 – $102,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
