DESCRIPTION

Starting salary for this position is: $18.93 (Hourly)

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Instruction & Classroom Support in the Arts & Science Division.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Positions work under general supervision of the Assistant Dean of Arts & Sciences Division. Positions assist the supervisor by performing routine instructional support services for the division. Duties include activities such as assisting in preparing materials for use in a classroom or laboratory; assisting students in coursework assignments, individualized, and group instruction for development of learning skills such as reading, writing, study skills, or other discipline-specific instructional areas;

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists supervisor/instructor/students with classroom coursework; Supports students with study skills, course concepts, or other discipline-specific instructional areas.
  • Assists supervisor with preparing materials for use in tutoring sessions; assists students with assignments, for classes;
  • Assists instructors/students in demonstration of models and materials for applicable coursework.
  • Assists students in identifying classroom and electronic resources and materials.
  • Assists supervisor with cataloguing equipment and supplies to develop an inventory list; log and check out resources in Tutoring Services database.
  • Enters and maintains data on individual student’s visits; reviews daily work of students; conducts individual student appointments as necessary.
  • Maintains records of work activities and supports supervisor in preparing reports.
  • Attends and participates in periodic training programs covering best practices for tutoring students following required schedule of College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified tutor training program.
  • Attend all required trainings and orientations
  • Complete required CRLA tutor certification training within 6 months of hire date
  • Performs other work as required.
  • May direct the work of others.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform related duties as required.

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Six months to two years of full or part-time experience/training in the appropriate discipline or equivalent education/experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with college students
  • Proficiency with technology.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.
