Starting Salary:Mechanic I$15.90 to 20.27, depending on qualificationsMechanic II$16.85 to 21.49, depending on qualifications Mechanic III$17.87 to 22.78, depending on qualifications

Nature of Work:

Performs skilled mechanical work analyzing and diagnosing problems; inspecting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, and performing preventative maintenance on City automobiles, tractors, mowers, trucks, and small engines; assigning, overseeing work and training of lower level mechanics. Employees assigned to this classification perform a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge and skills. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for accuracy and completeness.
Minimum Requirements
Mechanic I: High school graduate plus one (1) year mechanical experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Required to own standard set of mechanic tools.

Mechanic II: High school graduate plus two (2) years mechanical experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Required to own standard set of mechanic tools.

Mechanic III: High school graduate plus three (3) years mechanical experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory training desired. Must be able to read and interpret plans and technical bulletins. Required to own standard set of mechanic tools.

ALL LEVELS:

  • Must own a standard set of mechanic tools.
  • Florida driver license required at time of employment.

VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF EMPLOYMENT.

Supplemental Information

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master’s degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
