Position Title: Mechanic I, II, III

** Mechanic I : Hourly Rate: $20.50 – $21.25/hour (depending on experience) Pay Grade: 81
** Mechanic II: Hourly Rate: $21.40 – $22.25/hour (depending on experience) Pay Grade: 91
** Mechanic III: Hourly Rate: $26.25 – $27.10/hour (depending on experience) Pay Grade: 111
Schedule: 40 hours/week (hours TBD); 12 month position; Benefits offered; Arizona State Retirement System eligible

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Inspect, maintain and repair buses, various cars, vans, trucks, small equipment. Oversees and maintains all Flagstaff USD vehicles and equipment, keeps maintenance service records of all vehicles; checks to see that all vehicles are operational on time; responds quickly to route emergencies; performs duties assigned by immediate supervisor.
TYPICAL TASKS:
- Ensures all vehicles are properly inspected by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
- Inspects and maintains all FUSD vehicles and equipment.
- Follow standard procedures to service vehicles on a regular basis to include but not limited to:
- removing and replacing flat tires, changing oil, lubricating chassis, rotating tires, checking radiators, checking batteries, checking cooling and heating systems in the engine and passenger section of the vehicles,
- performs diagnosis and makes repairs that cannot be done in-house,
- keeps all vehicles and equipment operational
- Performs facility, mechanical and equipment duties, which shall include but not be limited to the following:
- Follow standard procedures to perform all maintenance and servicing of buses, other equipment, shop, and service areas, and radio equipment.
- Trouble-shoots shop area keeping tools and equipment in working order; performs repair to mechanical parts.
- Reports need for major repairs to vehicles to Shop Foreman.
- Performs work order projects, maintains accurate service and repair records for all vehicles, and assists in filing them for future reference.
- Follow written and oral directions for job duties; stays alert for and report emergency situations; abide by district safety standards.
- Uses tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles provided by the district to accomplish job-related tasks.
- Attends in-service training activities.
- Performs service calls on buses on the road as needed.
- Install auxillary equipment such as batteries, tires, wiring, door glass, and door handles.
- Perfoms other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be knowledgeable in all phases of gasoline and diesel auto and truck mechanics. To include but not limited to auto, bus, van, tractor, lawn equipment, and other small engines.
- Formal training as an ASE Certified Diesel Mechanic – preferred
- High School Diploma Required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
