Marketing and Media Specialist – Two positions available – One will specialize with Parent/Guardian Engagement / One with General Media/Marketing of the district.
Purpose Statement
The job of Marketing and Media Relations Specialist is done for the purpose/s of maintaining district websites and associated social media systems; planning events; providing information and services to school site employees, district employees, and non-employees regarding marketing and media relations; acts as backup to Digital Media Specialist; executing District internal/external public information systems; and planning District events and meetings.
This job reports to Communications Coordinator, Superintendent and Associate Superintendent.
Essential Functions
- Assist the Superintendent in the District’s marketing and media relations (e.g. creating and editing various forms of written communication, maintaining website, planning events, crisis communication, etc.) for ensuring the availability and accuracy of District communication services.
- Direct and facilitate the district’s Parent Engagement Program.
- Compile information from a wide variety of sources (e.g. staff, public agencies, administrators., etc.) for monitoring activities while ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Coordinate media/marketing activities with a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g. staff, other district employees, community leaders, the public, etc.) for ensuring effective community-wide communication on behalf of the District.
- Develop creative content (e.g. taking and editing photos and videos, developing graphics, etc.) for providing effective communication of information.
- Develops schedules of a variety of events (e.g. awards ceremonies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring positive marketing and media coverage for the District.
- Direct and manage the district’s public information activities.
- Serve as the information liaison between the school system and the community.
- Coordinate media coverage.
- Direct preparation of press releases and publication of articles and photos at the local, state and national level.
- Help school personnel publicize and promote any performances, exhibitions, displays, or special programs sponsored by the schools.
- Design, prepare, and edit district publications including newsletters, recruitment brochures, programs for special events, and other publications.
- Participate in meetings as needed (e.g. workshops, event planning, staff meetings, etc.) for conveying and gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepare a variety of materials (e.g. reports, press releases, articles, crisis communication, etc.) for documenting activities, providing written reference, and conveying information in a timely manner.
- Research a variety of work-related topics (e.g. relevant policies, current practices, requirements, emerging social media, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the District remains current in its use of social media.
- Respond to inquiries from a wide variety of stakeholders (e.g. media, administrators, public, etc.) for ensuring the ongoing communication between the District and patrons.
- Support district employees with the maintenance of school websites (e.g. website guidelines, web content software use, etc.) for ensuring that District-wide websites and other social media meet District standards.
- Ensure that public information activities contribute to the attainment of district goals and objectives.
- Keep informed of developing communication trends and techniques.
- Helps clarify and pursue a common vision for school improvement through active participation in community organizations.
- Help the superintendent develop and publicize reports related to the performance of the district and articulate district goals and objectives.
- Provides research and support in a variety of educational areas.
Other Functions

functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include analyzing data; conducting meetings; estimating required resources; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include business telephone etiquette; concepts of grammar and punctuation; current and emerging technology; keyboarding; office 365; office application software; practicing cultural competency while working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals; web design and management; and basic principles of communication.
ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider several factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience is required.
Education: Targeted, job related education with study in job-related area.

FLSA Status Salary Grade
Non-Exempt Salary Range will be $20.18 to $21.18 per hour
