About the Media Instructor Role:

BRIC seeks an experienced and energetic adult educator to teach a variety of in-person and online media classes. Courses include: Television Studio Production, Video Production in the Field, Video Editing (Premiere, DaVinci), Narrative & Documentary Filmmaking, Intro to Podcasting, Motion Graphics (After Effects & Nuke) among others. What You’ll Do in the Role:

The Adult Media Instructor will be responsible for the following in addition to any other project as assigned by their managers, the Senior Director, Media Education and Manager, Adult Education:

  • Prepare materials and deliver media instruction to classes of twelve to fifteen adults online as well as in-person in locations throughout Brooklyn
  • Certify students once they successfully complete class (if applicable)
  • Log attendance & facilitate class evaluation
  • Meet regularly with Manager of Adult Education to review curriculum and class outcomes

  • Qualifications and Experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (MFA preferred)
    • Teaching experience in a higher education or adult education setting required
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
    • Experience working with variety of cameras, production workflows & post-production software
    • Documentary or ENG filmmaking experience
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, podcast production, television studio production
  • Communication & Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. An emotionally intelligent, values- and results-driven team player who can inspire staff and collaborate across departments and at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Brings experience operationalizing equity within the media function.

Other Things to Know:

  • Compensation: This is a union position under a collective bargaining agreement with NABET. The hourly rate varies depending on the class and ranges $32-38/hr + an additional hour prep time for each class session
  • Status, Schedule and location: This is a part-time, non-exempt role, with flexible hours and class location (online, in-person at BRIC, or at the Brooklyn Public Libraries.) The duration of a single class session is two-three hours with a multi-session course ranging between 6 and 24 total hours.
