Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Uses technical background and practical experience to coordinate the daily organization, deployment, scheduling, and logistics of RTVS full-time and part-time employees relevant to Media Productions-produced projects.
  • Actively hands in the management and reporting of personnel, travel, assignments expenses, and billing.
  • Works closely with RTVS management personnel.
  • Required to assist on events, local and remote, in a variety of production roles.
  • Acts as Crewing Coordinator while scheduling and managing RTVS resources against production projects – including staff and temp employee personnel, equipment, and facilities. Works with RTVS managers on executing projects, including successful project budgeting, quotation, organization, delivery, reconciliation, and billing. Software data entry and organization to create organized work orders.
  • Oversees temp (hourly) employee personnel acquisition and training; including organization of training sessions and creation of training materials.
  • Aides managing RTVS owned and operated equipment facilities and kits and ensure regular maintenance and readiness.
  • Organization/management of IU Media Productions media archive and broadcast.iu.edu website.
  • Serves as Technical Manager, Producer, Technical Director, and/or Production Coordinator on assigned projects. Includes taking a lead role in the production, coordination and direction of multimedia projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned, including those within current and future iterations of the local job description.

General Responsibilities

  • Directs operations for production and content aspects of the radio and television broadcasting function for the university.
  • Trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, and supervises the work of a team of digital marketing staff.
  • Contributes to development of processes, standards, and policies that impact broadcasting and production technology and equipment, while remaining compliant with FCC and other applicable regulations.
  • Coaches broadcasting and production employees in creating and curating multimedia content.
  • Researches industry trends and best practices, explores broader production offerings, and makes strategic recommendations to achieve long-term broadcasting and production goals.
  • Serves as a liaison and ambassador for university broadcasting and production efforts to external constituent groups, including listeners, university stakeholders, national networks, professional organizations, and businesses.
  • Assists in budget planning and administration, including expenditures and revenue projections, program costs, capital needs, corporate development goals, contract negotiations, and report filing.
  • Determines content needs, frequently in collaboration with other broadcasting and production organizations, that appropriately deliver local, state-wide, and national coverage of relevant topics.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in media production or related field

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, and other like fields

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years in public broadcasting, video and web production, content creation, production, or relevant field
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field

Preferred

  • 5 years of professional experience of client-facing professional experience in a broadcast or high-end instructional or industrial video production company; including hands-on experience with video production equipment
  • Experience in a fast-paced broadcast, video, or live-events environment, including exposure to live multi-camera setups in both studio and remote

Preferred

  • Possesses a general understanding of the technical equipment used on mobile units, including but not limited to cameras, replay devices, switchers, audio boards, and graphics machines
  • Familiarity with using scheduling software. Experience with ScheduAll or Xytech Media Pulse a plus
  • Proficient in utilization of multiple software platforms, including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Previous use/understanding of how to use Sony, Grass Valley/Thompson, and Newtek TriCaster HD video switchers
  • Familiarity with most video, audio, and live web streaming standard equipment, in both ENG and multi-camera setups, including fly pack kits, ENG kits, control room, NLE edit, and studio configurations
  • Basic understanding of technical remote positions, their functions, responsibilities, and necessary skills
  • Basic knowledge of all phases of departmental operations through orientation and observation
  • Ability to react in a timely manner against all Programming assignments

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment for up to 4 hours at a time and the campus. This position requires the ability to move objects up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$58,000.08- $63,000.00 per year based upon experience and internal equity.

Work Hours

Occasional work on evenings, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
