Medical Animator – Education

Responsibilities

Strategically positioned in the Department of Education at Mayo Clinic, the Division of Biomedical and Scientific Visualization is growing and expanding. Join our team of medical illustrators and animators to explore new ways of using your skills and knowledge to expertly communicate complex biomedical information and exemplify Mayo Clinic???s standards of quality and excellence. As part of the in-house team, this Medical Animator role provides direct service to clients across the entire enterprise. In collaboration with surgeons, faculty and other medical professionals, the medical animator produces 3D models and animation depicting biomedical and scientific content for a variety of uses including professional publication, presentation and educational curricula. Duties include most aspects of animation and 3D model development. Graduate students pending graduation spring of 2023 are encouraged to apply.

This position is a combination of remote and onsite support work. Individual must live within driving distance to the Mayo Clinic Rochester campus.

**Visa sponsorship may be available for this position. However, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Qualifications

The preferred level of education is a post graduate degree (MS, MFA or MA) in the field of Medical Illustration, requiring at least two years of full-time study after a college degree.

A BFA, BA or BS degree in Medical Illustration or Fine Art (drawing) from an accredited University, College or School of Design is required. At least 10 – 15 years of successful, professional experience in the field of medical illustration is also required to offset lack of graduate level degree.

Additional Qualifications:

A generalist animation skillset
Strong art and storytelling skills
Ability to manage projects autonomously

Proficiency in the following:

  • 3ds Max, Maya, or C4D (must be proficient in at least one)
  • Adobe After Effects, Photoshop

Experience in the following is a plus:

  • ZBrush and/or Blender
  • Sketchfab, Unity, and/or Unreal engine
  • Photogrammetry, and/or 3D scanning
  • Adobe Substance Painter and/or Substance Designer
  • Other software such as Adobe Illustrator, Audition, and Premiere

Compensation Detail

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended; $75,129.60 – $112,736.00/year.
