Position Overview:
The NATIVE Project seeks an experienced and detail-oriented Medical Biller and Coder to join our team. This essential role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of medical billing and coding in our healthcare facility, complying with federal regulations and insurance guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, be knowledgeable in medical terminology, and adapt to the needs of the communities we serve.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately process medical billing and coding information, ensuring comprehensive and compliant documentation.
  2. Review patient records and classify services using proper ICD-10 and CPT codes to guarantee reimbursement.
  3. Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and services to ensure accurate processing.
  4. Submit claims to insurance companies and follow up on any pending or rejected claims, addressing and resolving any discrepancies.
  5. Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA regulations and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures.
  6. Collaborate with the finance team to provide accurate revenue and payment reports and manage account receivables.
  7. Stay informed on industry developments and changes in coding rules or insurance guidelines, participating in training and professional development as needed.
  8. Contribute to developing and implementing process improvements to enhance the overall efficiency of the billing and coding department.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., AAPC or AHIMA) is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with a focus on ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA regulations, and insurance procedures.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems and medical billing software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail to ensure quality coding and billing.
  • Cultural sensitivity and a commitment to providing high-quality services to our Native and Urban Indian communities.
