Medical Specialist 2

Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State (see limited permit option below);

AND

Certification by a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in your specialty

OR
Permanent New York State employee currently serving in this title, or in comparable title, and eligible for Section 70.1 transfer.

Limited Permit Option: If you are licensed in another state or by written examination in Canada, AND meet the other requirements for Medical Specialist 2, you are also eligible if you have a current limited permit to practice medicine in New York State. If appointed, you must obtain your license within one year of the date your limited permit was issued. Failure to do so will result in removal from your position.

Duties Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Will provide comprehensive primary medical are for all assigned individuals admitted to the various group homes in the community.
• Will provide medical oversight and advocacy for best care for all assigned individuals in the group homes who have a primary doctor in the community.
• Will review all lab work, specialty clinic visits as well as consult and assist with follow through for all assigned individuals.
• Will require travel between different residences.
• Provide after-hours and weekend on-call medical telephone consult on a rotating basis.
• Provide short-term urgently needed prescriptions when the community provider may be unavailable.
• Provide medical coverage for other ETU/group home physicians during their absence.
• Communicate directly with hospital and rehab medical staff to ensure smooth transitions of care for assigned individuals whenever needed.
• Review and approve all hospital and rehab discharge summaries prior to receiving an individual back to the residence.
• Communicate with team members regarding medical issues and participate in team meetings by phone or in person when needed.
• Communicate with family members and advocates when needed to explain medical issues.
• Participate in Mortality Review Committee.
• Assist with level of care determinations.
• Review treatment plans for the clinic.
• Other duties when needed.
