Mental Health Support Associate

We are proud to announce an opportunity as a DSP – Mental Health Support Associates. This position is responsible for providing quality person-centered services to dually diagnosed and mental health individuals receiving support services, as a key member of a team of professionals. Successful use of crisis intervention techniques to deescalate conflicts in a manner that keeps staff and supported individuals safe both during daily activities and crisis. Based upon experience, staff will ensure that activities are aligned to redirect the supported individual and ensure they are engaged in activities that promote a positive mental status. Staff will use observational skills to notice changes in symptoms and behaviors and report these changes and provide interventional tools as directed by the Clinical Support Team Members to ensure the individual is fully supported to prevent or support them through a potential crisis period. As a DSP – Mental Health Associate, the staff maintains the balance between supporting the individual’s growth and the support and services needed to ensure the health, welfare and safety of the individual, according to Individual Service/Support/Behavioral Health Plans.

Our minimum requirements include a valid driver’s license with a 3-year, good driving record. Excellent communication skills, high school diploma or its equivalent. Candidates must be able to physically assist individuals, have a high energy level to support our clients’ activities, be able to persuade and redirect behavior.

Staff must complete NAADS Certification within 180 days of assignment within sites designated as Mental Health supported programs and must complete recertification annually.
Incumbents maintain all required Annual Training Expectations as mandated by Agency guidelines, ODP, and other applicable regulations.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; 2 years of experience working with persons Autism preferred;
- Ability to train and coach assigned Consumers and develop under the direction of the Clinical Team alternative methods of learning, communication, and therapeutic support.
- Ability to interpret, execute and enhance Support Plans to accomplish goals as defined by the Clinical Team.
Must demonstrate:
- Ability to understand and support licensed programs including regulatory compliance, and policies concerning care, treatment, and inclusion in community settings.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers.
- A good driving record with no restrictions on driver’s license.
- Acceptable criminal record clearances and employment references.
- Advocacy for individuals with intellectual and development disabilities.
- Ability to meet both the physical and essential requirements of the position as outlined in job description.
