Mergers & Acquisitions Principal Accountant

About the Opportunity
This role is a Leader role within the CAO organization. The position is located in San Diego, CA. This leader is primarily responsible for assuring accounting functions are working accurately, efficiently, and within our accounting policies. Partnership skills are a must. Further, this leader will oversee technical accounting, including but not limited to, mergers and acquisition, allocations, goodwill and intangible impairment testing.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate and lead across multiple functions and roles to achieve accounting objectives. If and when issues are identified, the leader will use their strong change management skills and to drive issues through to resolution and subsequent validation with the full transparency of involved stakeholders at all levels within the larger organization.

Salary: $131,447 – $177,839
Please note this range is an estimate and actual pay may vary based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses risk independently and validates thinking/gains alignment with other leaders and managers in the Accounting function.
  • Understands and assesses impact when and if issues are noted.
  • Clearly articulates their POV regarding issues identified and works with stakeholders to resolve and remediate issues, with transparency throughout all levels in the organization.
  • Ensures that intent of policy matches execution in applicable systems and processes with end-to-end process mindset.
  • Remains current on evolving Accounting Standards pronouncements and updates under prevailing regulatory bodies (FASB, SEC) and incorporating into current Company policy as necessary.
  • Implements and maintains the required process and internal control environment, and performs control procedures to ensure compliance with Company policy.
  • Develops training and outreach programs and delivers this training to business unit and functional team leaders.

Requirements:

  • Understands theory and application of relevant accounting literature, including but not limited to, mergers and acquisitions, goodwill and intangible impairment testing
  • Ability to research and understand technical details; and ability to interpret and present in lay terms to non-technical finance and other business partners
  • Confidence, good judgment, energy and personality to work in a dynamic, multi-business unit environment across all levels of management and across business units and functions
  • Strong end-to-end process orientation with demonstrated analytical thinking, project management, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, time prioritization and risk assessment
  • Bachelors` degree (or equivalent experience) in Finance/Accounting with minimum of 6 years` post-graduate experience; CPA/MBA highly desirable
  • Professional skepticism and a testing/validation mindset. Background in public accounting or internal audit is a plus.
  • Strong PC, worksheet and word processing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, presentation and influencing skills, including the ability to elevate issues to the right level internally and externally to resolve
  • Working knowledge of Oracle R12, Blackline and Spreadsheet Server a plus
