The Eugene Water &Electric Board is seeking Meter Readers to provide excellent field service to our customers.Meter Reading is the critical first step in EWEB’s meter to cash process and is an excellent entry point for someone seeking to start a career in the utility industry. Summary of duties:
- Read residential and commercial electric and/or water meters and enter readings into a handheld reading device with a mandatory accuracy rate of 99.96%.
- Walk up to 15 miles per day in allweather conditions while reading meters.
- Fulfill open service order requests related to move ins/move outs, read verifications, and failed or missing readings.
- Observe and report defective and damaged meters, unauthorized connections, broken seals, inaccessible meters, and hazardous conditions. Ensure the proper functioning of meters.
- Complete daily review of meter reading validity, creating rereads and other possible meter-related problem service orders.
- Provide quality assurance for customer billings, including accuracy and timeliness of billing statements.
- Resolve customer complaints regarding high bills as well as customer concerns about meter reader behaviors. Interact with other utility departments to ensure consistency in interactions with customers.
- Work occasional overtime as needed.
- Participate in cross-functional operational projects as needed.
Work Schedule: 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday – Friday
Work Location: This position is based at EWEB’s Roosevelt Operations Center, at 4200 Roosevelt Boulevard, Eugene, Oregon 97402.
The starting salary for this position is $25.25 – $30.42 per hour commensurate with knowledge, skills, education, and experience as it relates to the position.
Minimum Training and Experience Required:
- Minimum Experience:One year of experience working outdoors in field data collection or route delivery.
- Education:High school diploma or GED.
Desirable education, experience, training, and certifications:
- Six months experience in meter reading preferred.
- One year experience in customer service preferred.
