About This Role:
The communications manager leads a communications team that develops internal and external facing content across all media platforms on behalf of the Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF) at Kansas State University. As a participant in high-level conversations, the incumbent exercises extremely good judgement and discretion and leads the translation of information into appropriate communications for internal and external stakeholder consumption. Housed in the Division of Communications and Marketing (DCM) and serving the VPAF and the VPAF executive leadership team, this position works closely with DCM counterparts to ensure adherence to university branding/style guidelines and that messaging is appropriately aligned with university priorities. This position reports directly to DCM’s executive director of news and communication services with daily input and guidance from the vice president for administration and finance and unit level leadership.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in public relations, marketing and/or journalism careers.
- Experience creating public presentations for executive leaders.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the university and with external stakeholders.
- Strong customer service orientation and commitment to the university’s inclusive mission, with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, and a proven ability to work effectively and collegially under pressure.
- Must have proven ability to exercise considerable tact, judgment, confidentiality and diplomacy.
- Excellent attention to detail and accountability for results with the ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include the ability to develop content that engages the reader/viewer and effectively tells the story. Knowledge of AP style a plus.
- Ability to work with creative teams, identify and support brand standards, successfully manage interpersonal relationships, work within strict deadlines, think creatively and learn new technology quickly.
- Ability to interact effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment, and with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Three years of experience managing digital/social media business or brand accounts.
- Experience managing a team of professionals.
- Understanding of and commitment to the K-State Principles of Community.
