We are looking for a Microfabrication Encapsulation Engineer, focused on the packaging and longevity of our devices. Your main focus will be on developing and implementing packaging technologies for implanted medical devices. This is a relatively new and broadly unsolved area which requires the ability to drive fast paced R&D as well as integration into a development flow. This is a hands-on position where you will need to innovate new ideas, develop processes, design or purchase equipment and demonstrate success. Our goal is to move quickly, but ultimately once we have determined the right solution we will aim to scale our work and help as many people as possible.
Role responsibilities:
- Hands-on development of thin film packaging for implanted devices
- Develop and execute testing strategies for packaging approaches
- Integrate your technology into the device flow
Key qualifications:
- 4+ years working on microfabrication processes
- Experience in ALD, CVD, polymer deposition or similar
- Experience in accelerated aging testing
- Understanding of interfaces, kinetics and thermodynamics
- Cleanroom fabrication and characterization experience
- Experience in failure analysis such as
- Strong ability to understand and balance fundamental or unknown risks
- Ability to work quickly and confidently in limited-information situations or clear specifications
- MS or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, EE or related field
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with flexible devices
- Experience with laser welding, hermetic bonding, or electronics assembly
- Experience with implanted devices
Salary/Pay Range:
For individuals hired to work in California, Science is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on geo-located salary bands. The base salary range for this full-time position is $100,000-$160,000 + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
