We are currently seeking a Microgrid Engineer with experience with distributed generation and renewables at both the planning and design stages. Our microgrids support the energy transition for zero emission vehicles, campuses, and the public. We provide microgrid planning and design services to a wide range of clients including transit authorities, higher education, tech companies, property developers, healthcare, and energy developers. The successful candidate is a highly skilled and innovative engineer who leaves a strong positive impression on clients and one who has a vision and insight to deliver excellence. The successful candidate’s key focus will be on developing microgrid operational models, and developing cost-effective designs which meet our client’s specific needs.
- Work with our clients to develop microgrid models which optimize on-site resources for carbon reduction, resilience, and cost effectiveness.
- Develop an understanding of client-specific needs and decision-making criteria, so that we can develop solutions which meet their specific goals.
- Deliver presentations and reports to communicate the key microgrid benefits and considerations in our client’s terms.
- Undertake microgrid design, including development of distribution system design, site plans, etc.
- Work closely with utilities to understand and document their interconnection requirements, timelines, and costs.
- Conduct system calculations such as demand load calculations, short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and arc flash analysis.
- Coordinate with equipment vendors for the selection and specification of electrical equipment. Prepare contract documents detailing the system designs, write technical design briefs.
- Work with Arup’s multi-disciplinary teams to develop comprehensive microgrid designs which consider all key site elements and deliver outcome driven results on projects.
We would be looking for:
- Passion for energy and decarbonization.
- Experience with renewables, particularly Solar + Storage.
- Microgrid design and experience with islandable systems is a plus.
- Confidence in presenting technical material for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working.
- The ability to prioritize effectively, manage deadlines and apply organization skills required for our rapidly changing environment.
- Good writing skills for internal and external purposes to communicate microgrid design concepts and strategies.
- Familiarity with applicable National Electrical Codes and standards.
- Experience with electric vehicle charging is a plus.
- Experience with BIM and Revit MEP is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Energy Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with distributed generation analysis and/or design of solar PV, Battery Energy Storage, Generators, and/or microgrids.
New York Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $68,411 to $96,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
