I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Milken Institute School of Public Health Web Lead, part of the university’s Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), serves as the primary liaison and point of contact for the web presence of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University (GWSPH).

This position requires both technical and content creation skills. It reports to the OCM Team Lead for Enterprise Digital and works closely with the GWSPH Marketing and Communications Director, school stakeholders, and the central Communications and Marketing division to achieve school-specific and collective goals.

This position is hybrid, with the Web Lead working on campus 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities include:
Website Management
Coordinating with the Marketing and Communications Director on day-to-day and strategic web priorities
Maintaining all websites affiliated with GWSPH, either directly or through delegation to other content managers
Creating content for GWSPH websites
Building websites on content management systems including Drupal and WordPress
Working with HTML and CSS when necessary for projects
When working with third parties such as external vendors, the Web Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance with GW standards

Strategy
Working with the Marketing and Communications Director and other stakeholders to align websites with the school’s strategic and marketing priorities
Using web content strategy, search engine optimization, and digital accessibility best practices for site mapping, wireframing and content development to complete university projects
Regularly reviewing web analytics to inform decision making
Coordinating web content publishing across ancillary systems, such as the University Calendar, digital signage, or mobile applications
Ensuring websites are properly configured for digital marketing, including analytics tracking, distribution on social media, and search engine optimization
Working with the design team and front-end developer to improve the user journey of a website

Quality Assurance
Ensuring website content is up to date, accurate and free of errors such as typos and broken links
Fact checking and paying close attention to detail to produce error-free work
Ensuring the GWSPH websites meet GW visual identity standards, GW digital accessibility standards, and school-specific editorial best practices

Communication
Demonstrating excellent communication skills in both outward- and internal-facing contexts
Ensuring the status of web projects and tasks is clearly communicated within the division and with school stakeholders
Communicating effectively with stakeholders who have a range of technical expertise

Support and Training
Advising GWSPH stakeholders on web tools, processes and services
Participating in Virtual Office Hours and trainings as needed to support GWSPH website content managers
Providing support on projects across the Office of Communications and Marketing division per request from manager and/or division lead as needed

Project and Client Management
Applying project and client management best practices to ensure successful project completion
Managing and prioritizing day-to-day operational tasks with larger ongoing projects
Building and maintaining relationships with school stakeholders, and supporting their needs throughout the academic cycle
The Milken Institute School of Public Health Web Lead may also perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Ability to initiate and independently define daily work
  • Experience with Drupal and WordPress
  • Experience writing copy for websites
  • Familiarity with creation of web graphics
  • Experience utilizing sitemaps, wireframes and other prototyping tools
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Digital marketing experience
  • Experience with Adobe products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or similar

Typical Hiring Range
$55,931.64 – $76,934.53 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
