The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a highly motivated Engineer to join its Security Engineering team at the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) Charleston site.

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of physical security systems (e.g., access control, biometrics, video, barrier devices) at NPTU Charleston.

In addition, the candidate will perform the following responsibilities for NPTU Charleston physical security systems: perform engineering reviews for construction projects to ensure alignment with applicable security requirements, provide Work Control Officer (WCO) support, provide oversight for preventative/corrective maintenance activities, and manage the budget.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience or;
  • MS degree in engineering or Master’s degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience developing and implementing physical security systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering is preferred.

Pay Range

$105,600 – $158,400 annually

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
