MU TITLE: Strategic Communications Associate II
LOCATION: 1400 Rock Quarry Road, Columbia, MO

The MU Extension Multimedia Storyteller position will play a vital role in shaping and executing our multimedia content strategy. The person will be responsible for producing compelling video content that resonates with our target audience across multiple platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. This role requires a creative, strategic thinker with a journalist’s skillset and the ability to think like a marketer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Video Production: Plan, shoot, edit, and produce high-quality video content that tells engaging stories, educates our audience, and aligns with our brand.
- Content Strategy: Strategize and execute content plans for various platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and storytelling across all channels.
- Adobe Suite Expertise: Utilize Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, and Lightroom for video editing and graphic design.
- Photography Skills: Capture high-resolution photos using DSLR cameras and mobile phones to enhance multimedia content.
- Vertical Storytelling: Develop vertical storytelling techniques tailored for social media platforms to maximize engagement.
- YouTube Management: Lead our YouTube channel, optimize content for SEO, and work towards growing our subscriber base and viewership.
- Repurposing Content: Adapt existing content for different formats and lengths to maximize reach and impact.
- Strategic Thinking: Identify storytelling opportunities within MU Extension programs and activities, and proactively gather and produce stories that resonate with our audience.
- Creative Innovation: Push boundaries and bring innovative ideas to the team to continually improve our multimedia content.
- Story Gathering: Travel this great state and engage with citizens of Missouri to gather stories and content.
- Video Livestream: Provide technical support for livestreamed events.
- Multimedia Training: Provide training to MU Extension faculty and staff on multimedia content production.
- Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.
- As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.
Projected General Time Allocation (this is subject to change based on project pipeline)
- Generating Strategy – 5%
- Story Gathering – 37.5%
- Editing and finalizing – 37.5%
- Content deployment and platform management – 10%
- Livestream support – 5%
- Multimedia training/consultation – 5%

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing for MU Extension. This position may mentor others in completing communications duties.

Salary
Salary Range: $20.66 – $29.41 per hour
Grade: GGS-009
University Title: Strategic Communications Associate II

Shift
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Ability to travel and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possesses conceptual knowledge of theories, practices and procedures within the Communications function.
- Applies general knowledge of the organization and communications techniques developed through education and experiences.
- Strategizes and executes content plans for various platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and storytelling across all channels.
- Captures high-resolution photos and videos using DSLR cameras, mobile phones, drones, and go-pros to enhance multimedia content.
- A pplies vertical storytelling techniques tailored for social media platforms to maximize engagement.
- Utilizes Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, InDesign, Photoshop, and Lightroom for video editing and graphic design.
- Ability to lead a YouTube channel, optimize content for SEO, and work towards growing our subscriber base and viewership.
