The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, is currently seeking a part-time year-round Education Specialist for the College Park Aviation Museum (CPAM). The College Park Aviation Museum shares its campus with the world’s oldest continuously operating airport, established by the Wright Brothers in 1909, and home to the first Army aviation school. We are dedicated to preserving aviation innovations in College Park and Prince George’s County. We engage and inspire our community and visitors with diverse stories through education, exhibits, outreach, and programming.
This candidate will support CPAM in upholding its mission and vision and the Natural and Historic Resources Division’s (NHRD) impact framework, inclusive interpretation plan, and four strategic pillars:

The Education Specialist supports day-to-day operations and specialty museum programs through our Education, Public Programs, and/or Collections Department. The candidate should demonstrate and possess experience and a strong interest in community engagement, public programming, education, collections, exhibits, and work well with a team.
The focus of this position will be in the Education Department.
Candidate must be available between 24 to 28 hours a week. These hours will be scheduled over four days, including regular weekend hours.
Examples of Important Duties
- Schedule tour groups and educational activities and facilitate pre-and post-visit materials and communication.
- Assist in onboarding, and training of part-time educators.
- Design and develop content for history and science-based tours and activities for audiences of different ages and expertise.
- Update and supervise attendance databases for tours and programs for monthly reporting.
- Collaboratively work with the education team to manage multiple projects with differing timelines; organize, delegate, and monitor workflows and tasks of team members.
- Work closely with the Education Manager and Public Programs Manager to coordinate tasks, schedules, and collaborative programs.
- Assist with major department programs, such as Homeschool Day, Summer Series, and Youth Aviators.
- Provide tours and train staff on leading tours.
- Work closely with the Education Manager to develop goals for strategic and interpretive planning.
- Support Guest Services, occasionally staffing the front desk, selling tickets and merchandise, and opening/closing the museum.
The Education Specialist will also assist and work collaboratively with Operations Manager, Public Programs, and Collections Departments to manage ongoing inter-departmental projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any field applicable to museum studies, education, public history, aviation, or other relevant topics and 2 more years of relevant experience or 6 years of combined education and experience
- Two years of museum/cultural arts education or formal education experience
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Strong organizational, communication, and public speaking skills
- A valid driver’s license, or the ability to acquire one

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
